Taylor Swift Teases Song Written During 'Crazy, Emotional' Time

'It'll probably be on the next record,' she tells MTV News' Sway.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Taylor Swift sat down with MTV News on Tuesday night to chat about her latest music video, for "The Story of Us." During the discussion about the Noble Jones-directed, Vanderbilt University-set video, fans who submitted questions on Twitter wanted to know more about Swift's songwriting process. She said that touring can be the best time to write tracks, even teasing some song ideas for her follow-up to Speak Now.

With Swift's next tour set to kick off on Friday, the singer revealed that a song she wrote on her last tour could make the final cut for her next album, whenever she feels the need to begin work on it.
"I was in Madrid, and I was in my hotel room all day. And I was going through this crazy, emotional [thing] and I wrote a song about it and it'll probably be on the next record," she teased. "I'm telling you that. I'll tell you [the title] afterwards."
That isn't quite the strangest place that Swift has ever received some inspiration. During the sit-down, she opened up about getting an idea for a song and having to be creative about how she jotted it down.
"The weirdest [place] I have ever written a song is probably in an airport, and I got an idea so fast that I had to run to the bathroom at the airport, grab a paper towel and write lyrics on the paper towel," she explained. "I still have it. I still have it in a box in my room."

Taylor Swift 'Beyond Excited' About VMA Nod

Singer tweets about nomination for 'Mean' in new Best Video With a Message category.By Jocelyn Vena

Taylor Swift in her "Mean" video

Photo: Big Machine

Taylor Swift's glittering, empowering "Mean" video nabbed an MTV Video Music Award nod thanks to its feel-good theme. It's up for Best Video With a Message. This is the first time MTV is handing out a Moonman in this category, but given that over the past year more and more music videos have aimed to send fans positive messages, it feels like the right time to do it.

The video follows Swift as she makes her way from small-town performer to full-fledged superstar. Little vignettes also follow other characters as they go from being bullied to being empowered.
The nod seems to have Swift quite excited. She tweeted, "Wait, what?! The 'Mean' video got nominated for a VMA!! BEYOND excited. If you feel like voting ...... MTV.com." She followed the message with not one but three smiley faces.
Swift's video will face off against Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," Katy Perry's "Firework," Pink's "F---in' Perfect," Eminem featuring Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie" and Rise Against's "Make It Stop (September's Children)." All the clips are being recognized for having a positive social message.
The new category spotlights the intersection of music and social activism, highlighting artists who've raised awareness of some of the most pressing issues facing today's youth, from bullying and LGBT discrimination to domestic violence and struggles with self-image.
MTV News spoke to "Mean" director Declan Whitebloom after the clip was released earlier this year. He explained that Swift wanted the video to mirror the song's message. "We all have similar stories in our life that hit similar emotional cues, and to open it up and make it broader about lots of people and situations ... makes it much more accessible," he said. "It means more in a general way. I think [the message] goes across the board."
The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

T.I. Reprimanded After Overly Amorous Prison Visit With Wife Tiny

Rapper sent to restricted 'special housing unit' for violating prison rules, according to TMZ.By Gil Kaufman

Incarcerated rapper T.I., in the midst of an 11-month prison bid for probation violations, was reportedly reprimanded this weekend after getting a bit too amorous during a visit with wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle.
According to TMZ, T.I. (born Clifford Harris) was caught by guards getting "frisky" with his wife during visiting hours at the Forrest City Federal Correctional Complex in Arkansas over the weekend. Citing wife Tiny as its source, the gossip site said the couple was in a room during an approved conjugal visit during regular visiting hours when things got a little too hands on.
The extracurricular activity is against prison guidelines, which allow inmates to hold hands, kiss and embrace at the beginning and end of their visit, but require the prisoner's hands to "remain in plain view of Visiting Room staff at all times."
Tiny reportedly told the site that her hubby was immediately reprimanded and sent to a "special housing unit," which allows him less freedom and has tighter security. She said she hasn't spoken to Tip since the incident, but hopes that she can visit him again soon.
A spokesperson for the rapper had no comment on the incident at press time.
T.I. turned himself over to authorities on November 1 to begin his second stint in the Arkansas prison in less than a year.
The low-security prison is the same facility where the King of the South served nine months last year after he secured a plea deal with Georgia prosecutors stemming from a 2007 gun case. The experimental deal required Tip to complete 1,500 hours of community service and endure home confinement in exchange for a lesser sentence. He was also required to complete a probation period afterward. The rapper was released in March after serving out the remainder of his time at a halfway house.
He was sent back to the facility after an October 2010 arrest in Los Angeles for drug possession after police searched the couple's vehicle following a traffic violation.

Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber Turn CMT Awards Into Crossover Celebration

Kid Rock hosted the show, which featured everyone from Ludacris and Jason Aldean to Sheryl Crow.By Gil Kaufman

You might have done a double-take when you saw the list of winners and guests at Wednesday night's CMT Music Awards, which included trophies for Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber as well as performances that featured Ludacris and a cover of Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie."

But, yes, this was a country music event. It's just that some of the hardware handed out at the show hosted by Kid Rock tipped its 10-gallon hat to the ongoing popularity of the pop-infused sound.
The biggest example of that cross-over success, Swift, took home one of the top honors, Video of the Year, for her clip "Mine." She accepted the prize from a stage in Wisconsin, her latest tour stop.
"I just want to say thank you and hi to everybody back at the CMT Music Awards," she said. "I wish I could be there, but I'm hanging out with 15,000 of my closest friends in Milwaukee. I want to thank so many people — all the little kids who are in the video and their families for bringing them to Maine and being in the video. ... I don't know what I did to deserve you guys, but you've made so many amazing things happen to me in my life."
Male Video of the Year honors went to "The Voice" judge Blake Shelton for "Who Are You When I'm Not Looking," while the female video winner was his wife, Miranda Lambert, for her emotional tune "The House That Built Me."
One of the more unusual names on the winners list was Bieber, who snagged Collaborative Video of the Year for his hookup with Rascal Flatts on the tune "That Should Be Me."
"First of all, I just want to say how honored I am to be here ... with Rascal Flatts," Bieber said while accepting his first country award. "How amazing are Rascal Flatts, everybody? I want to thank my mom. I want to thank my family. And I want to thank Rascal Flatts for even jumping on the song with me."
Flatts bassist Jay DeMarcus thanked Bieber right back for bringing the group the "great song," adding, "It was an honor to be in this video with you. What a talented guy. We appreciate it so much."
Lady Antebellum, another group that has surfed the more country side of the crossover wave, scored Group Video of the Year for "Hello World." And the Band Perry, an act that many mainstream listeners were first introduced to thanks to "American Idol" runner-up Lauren Alaina, took the USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year prize for "If I Die Young," as well as the 2011 Nationwide Insurance On Your Side Award.
Of course, it wasn't all awards and honors, there was also a hilarious opening bit in which Swift and Shania Twain killed it in a three-minute "Thelma & Louise" parody. In the clip, the two jump in their convertible and run into a perv played by comedian Ron White, practice shooting their guns and run into "Glee" star Chord Overstreet, who plays the shirtless Brad Pitt character. In addition to a gratuitous Donald Trump cameo, the video also featured Kenny Rogers singing his hit "The Gambler" by the roadside and host Rock hopping into the car with the ladies after getting kicked off his tour bus for partying too hard.
There were other highlights, including someone tossing a pair of ladies' underwear at Rock and Sheryl Crow later admitting she flashed hers while getting up from a stool after performing with the rapper-turned-heartland-rocker.
"I'm just gonna address the elephant in the room, because people all over America are tweeting that I was wearing a really short skirt when I sang with Kid Rock — and that when I got up off the stool, I showed my underwear," Crow joked. "Well, at least you were wearing underwear," co-presenter Sara Evans said.
There was further drama when Twain came out to introduce the male video winner and took a major tumble on a too-slick floor while walking to the stage. She got up quickly and regained her composure, later laughing, "I don't need a stunt double."
In addition to Rock opening the show with a bit of his hard-hitting "Bawitdaba" (which was cut off in favor of a more country-safe tune named "Till My Dying Day" that he wrote for Wynonna Judd), Ludacris hooked up with Jason Aldean for "Dirt Road Anthem," the Band Perry played "Love the Way You Lie," and Lady Antebellum did a bit of Prince's "Kiss."
"Idol" winner Scotty McCreery was on hand with Alaina to introduce a performance by Sugarland as well.
Other winners included Sugarland (Duo Video of the Year for "Stuck Like Glue"), Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett (CMT Performance of the Year for "Margaritaville") and Shelton (Best Web Video of the Year, "Kiss My Country Ass.")

Tom Felton Calls 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' A 'Wakeup Call'

'Harry Potter' alum also raves about saying Charlton Heston's famous line in 'Apes' reboot.By Kara Warner

Photo: 20th Century Fox

Despite the fact that there are several high-profile actors featured in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," including James Franco, Freida Pinto and Tom Felton, the stars have not been shy about the fact that the apes and special effects are the must-see elements of the film.

"There's a mix of fantastic CGI and amazing effects that we've never seen onscreen before," Felton told MTV News at the premiere of the film. "Along with a strong story and a strong message that humans can't play God too much; we should not overstep our bounds when it comes to Mother Nature.
"We ruin it all," Felton continued, speaking to the oft-self-destructive nature of the human race. "We are our own cause of destruction, which is quite an insight, I think. Hopefully, it is a wakeup call for the world so we don't overstep our boundaries."
In addition to looking out for that powerful message, fans of the original "Planet of the Apes" starring Charlton Heston should keep an ear out for a certain line Felton was honored to deliver.
"I didn't know for sure it was going to be in the cut, but you just confirmed for me, so thank you; I'm very excited to see the infamous line," he said with a smile about the chance to say, "Take your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!" "My dad was so excited about that. He's an old-school fan who grew up with them and loved them, so he'll be pleased to hear that."
Felton's dad might also be pleased to hear that "Apes" director Rupert Wyatt and co-star Andy Serkis had nothing but positive things to say about his son's work ethic and performance.
"He's a man who prepares a great deal," Wyatt said of Felton. "I think this was his first film where he played an American. His accent was flawless. He trained really hard to get it to that place. He's a consummate professional. When you've grown up on a film set, which he has, you can go one of two ways, and Tom is such a gentleman and such a professional. He completely threw himself into that role and was up for anything. It was very inspiring for me as a director to work with someone like that."
"He's just got fantastic energy," Serkis added. "He's so positive. He wants to keep working at it and get it right. And he's great fun as well. He's really great fun."
Check out everything we've got on "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."

Diddy Wants Machine Gun Kelly To Stay 'True To Himself'

'This kid, I think he's a star,' Diddy tells Sway on MTV News' 'RapFix Live.'By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Diddy and Machine Gun Kelly

Photo: MTV News

Diddy's ear for talent is unquestionable. After playing an instrumental role in the careers of Jodeci and Mary J. Blige, the Bad Boy founder went on to discover the Notorious B.I.G., Mase, 112 and Faith Evans. His newest signee may not fit the Bad Boy mold, but Diddy is excited nonetheless — so excited that he Skyped into "RapFix Live" while on vacation in Spain to chat it up with Sway about his newest artist, Machine Gun Kelly.

"Yes, I signed MGK," Diddy confirmed. "This kid, I think he's a star. He's one of the best live performers I've ever seen to come out in a minute."
Influenced by DMX, Cleveland, Ohio's Machine Gun Kelly began battle-rapping around 2004 while he was still in high school. His passion grew from the corner ciphers to the studio, where he would lay tracks for his 2006 mixtape, Stamp of Approval. Back then, the MC (who got the Machine Gun part of his moniker because of his rapid-fire raps) was just getting his feet wet. In 2010, MGK would drop two tapes, 100 Words and Runnin' and his breakthrough Lace Up. From there, the energetic spitter would develop his following thanks to his spirited live performance.
The hip-hop mogul marveled at the existing fanbase Kelly had before even signing the deal. "He has just such a movement, just hundreds and thousands of loyal fans that came from the place he came from in different parts of the country," Diddy gushed. "He wasn't always the coolest kid in school, and just the process of growing up and the problems that they all encounter, they relate to him in such a way."
On the surface, MGK may not fit what many would perceive as the Bad Boy mold. He is a white, skinny, tatted-up kid from Cleveland who is influenced by punk music just as much as he is influenced by rap. For Combs, it's a non-issue.
"One of the things as an executive and someone that runs a record company is that I change so much as far as my respect for artists whether they succeed or fail. I think it's important to empower the artist," he said. "He will not be changing for Bad Boy; he will not have a typical Bad Boy swag. He's not going to be popping champagne or driving around in Bentleys. He's gonna be him and true to himself. He has a lot of creative control in his project."
Kelly, who recently graduated from sleeping on a futon to a mattress in his manager's mother's house, agrees. He assured his fans that he won't be changing his lifestyle very much. "We're kind of all about that 'I don't like to look better than my fans,' so maybe one day I'll change, but I pray to God I just stay the same," he said.
"We had a bidding war before he came in, but Puff is Puff," MGK said. "Honestly, I really want to treasure this almost-famous stage as much as we can, while we still can. It's crazy, because Ohio is one thing; we have this great hometown love. We'll do 4,000 in one show, but then we just did Texas and it was probably 60 to 100 people, still doin' holes in the wall, and it's so cool."
He won't be doing those venues much longer. MGK confirmed that he signed a two-album deal with Bad Boy and will be dropping his debut album, also called Lace Up, in the first quarter of 2012. "No push-backs with us, baby," he bragged. "Not happening. The fans are not allowing that to go down."
Have you checked out Machine Gun Kelly's music? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Amy Winehouse, Tony Bennett Song Royalties To Go To Charity

Funds from 'Body and Soul' single from Bennett's forthcoming Duets II will go to Mitch Winehouse's foundation to help those battling addiction.By Jocelyn Vena

Photo: Ben Stansall/ AFP/ Getty Images

Tony Bennett hooked up with a number of modern pop stars for his September release, Duets II. And in the sea of A-list collaborators including Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Michael Buble, John Mayer and Carrie Underwood, to name a few, one name in particular stands out. Bennett was likely the last person to record with Amy Winehouse prior to her death last month.
Winehouse appears on the song "Body and Soul," and when Bennett sat down on the "Today" show on Wednesday (August 3), he gave the late singer props for her professionalism in the recording studio. "That's right, that was the last record she made," he said. "It was great. She sang beautifully."
The legendary crooner also revealed that the track, which closes out the star-studded album, will serve as a charity single. The singer's dad, Mitch Winehouse, announced shortly after his daughter's death that he was planning to start a foundation that would assist people in getting help for addiction.
"Actually, what's going to happen is that we're putting that out ahead of the album [due out September 20]," Bennett said. "And it's going to a foundation that her father started to teach all the young children not to take drugs, and all the royalties of the record will go to that."
In an interview with the BBC last month, which teased a bit of the jazzy duet between the two, Bennett sang the praises of Winehouse. "Amy was beautiful. She was quite nervous, but I thought, I met Sinatra before a show, and he was nervous, and Duke Ellington, and he was nervous. What calmed her down when we did the record, and I'll never forget it, I said the way you sound [you sound like] Dinah Washington ... and that calmed her down. She's truly a good jazz singer. She's not making believe it's jazz. She's completely original and she's good at it."

Lil Wayne Producer Bangladesh Explains How '6'7" ' Came To Be

'It's unfortunate that political things happen and it messes up the music of creative people,' beatmaker says of his financial issues with Cash Money.By Jayson Rodriguez

Lil Wayne

Huh? That was the collective response when it was discovered that Lil Wayne's new track "6'7" " was produced by Bangladesh, the musical maestro behind Weezy's "A Milli." Ever since "A Milli" became a phenomenon, Bangladesh expressed frustration with Cash Money's financial operations and the two hadn't worked together.

But after the producer crafted the track that would eventually become "6'7"," things began shifting in place for a reunion. According to Bangladesh, Gee Roberson (an executive at Atlantic Records), requested music for T.I.'s album.
"I already know how T.I. is and how he is and how he thinks," Bangladesh told MTV News, explaining that the two parties, while friendly, haven't been able to connect musically in the past. "I had given up on sending him music. You know, sometimes everything ain't for people. And even though it might be great, it might not be their direction."
Turns out, it wasn't — but Roberson had a suggestion.
" 'Wayne will kill this, man,' " Bangladesh recalls the executive, who also co-manages Drake, saying. " 'This is Wayne.' He was right. He was absolutely right."
That conversation was the starting point between the producer and Wayne reuniting.
"It was the first step to resolving the relationship among each other," he said. "Not the business side of it. Like, everything that happened and everything I said [before] was true. But to move on, you have to see progression. So I had to learn that there was things that had changed over in the camp and the business department. Once I confirmed that from reliable sources, I could move on. And it really has never been a Wayne issue. I f---ed with him. It's just, it's unfortunate that political things happen and it messes up the music of creative people where we can't feed the consumer what they really want to hear."

Jay-Z, Kanye Enlist Lucky Few Producers For Watch The Throne

While vets like Swizz Beatz, RZA and Neptunes contributed, newcomers Lex Luger, Southside and Jugganauts also got in the mix.By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Smith

Kanye West and Jay-Z

High-profile albums call for high-profile producers. So it should be no surprise that for Watch the Throne, Jay-Z and Kanye West recruited the likes of Swizz Beatz, the Neptunes, RZA and Pete Rock to help them craft a soundbed for their eagerly anticipated joint LP.

It wasn't all about the veterans, however. The Throne also gave some relative newcomers a chance to contribute.
"They reached out to me for the 'See Me Now' record; I co-produced that with Kanye," Virginia producer Lex Luger said about 'Ye's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy bonus track. "So after that he wanted some more material, I flew to New York, and we were just vibing for a little while. He picked, like, two or three tracks, but he really liked that 'H.A.M.' track. It's a blessing."
In 2010, Luger broke out of relative obscurity after producing Waka Flocka Flame's "Hard in Da Paint" and Rick Ross' street anthem "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)." Recognized for his frantic synth keys, violent drum hits and hyped-up production style, Luger has since gone on to do beats for Wiz Khalifa, Soulja Boy and Fabolous, but raised his profile considerably with the Hov and Yeezy track.
"H.A.M." was the first leak from Watch the Throne and will now appear as a bonus track on the deluxe version of the album, as will "Illest Mother----er Alive," which was produced by Luger's buddy Southside.
Like Lex, Southside gained fame making beats on Waka Flocka Flame's Flockaveli album. With his Southern-fried sound, Southside was surprised that the Throne chose his track to include as a bonus track on the album. "It was on some straight trap music as they call it. Like, I couldn't believe that they did that beat," he said. "Working with them, that was crazy. That's a moment I'll never forget. I hope I get a lot more of those moments."
Sham "Sak Pase" Joseph and Verse Simmonds (collectively known as the Jugganauts) are no strangers to hitmaking. Together, along with reggae/pop group Rock City, the duo helped write and produce Rihanna's "Man Down." For Hov and Yeezy, they experimented with dubstep on "Who Gon Stop Me" and slowed things up for "Made in America."
The two tracks couldn't be more different. On "Who Gon Stop Me," Kanye and Jay deliver chest-pounding proclamations over an electro-infused dance track. "Made in America" is much more soothing, as the two MCs reminisce on their come-up. On the hook, Frank Ocean sings passionately about the black experience in America, paying homage to Malcolm X, Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King in his lyrics.
After getting a call from Def Jam VP of A&R Bu Thiam to submit tracks for WTT, the production pair got to work. "What we did is, we locked in a week, we just went crazy on everything Jay and Kanye," Simmonds told MTV News of the Jugganauts' big chance. "I remember telling Sham, I was like, 'Yo, I think this dubstep stuff is going to be the next new flavor that everybody gotta be on. It gotta have a hip-hop feel to it still.' "
On August 8, fans will finally be able to hear the long-awaited Throne album, which was first announced as an EP in August 2010. The project has since turned into a full-length project that has had the rap world buzzing for the first half of 2011. The recording — which took place in Paris, Australia and the Mercer Hotel in New York City — has resulted in a 12-track album with four bonus songs on the deluxe version. The wait is almost over!
Watch the Throne Week is on! Check in with MTV News every day until Wednesday, August 10, for exclusive content surrounding the release of Jay-Z and Kanye West's eagerly anticipated LP.

Britney Spears isn't the only pop titan dancing until the world ends: Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha have joined forces to add a new spin on an all-female remix of Femme Fatale's second single, "Till the World Ends."
The reworked dance anthem, which leaked online Friday (April 22), appears to have surfaced earlier than expected as noted by a series of countdowns on all three of the stars' websites.
Mixing the dance tune's original sonic swirls with heavier bass, Britney tourmate Minaj starts off the remix by throwing down an aggressive verse, in which she calls out a female hater: "A-A-A-A-A-AYE!/ Chimpanzees is hatin', but I take it all in stride/ Put her in a jungle with bananas on the side/ Told you they'd revive your career, but somebody lied/ I ain't talkin' poultry when I say this chicken's fried."
After Minaj spits a few introductory bars, Spears delivers the song's first verse before an introduction for the all-star trio. "It's Britney, bitch. I'm Nicki Minaj and that's Ke$ha!" the Young Money MC proclaims.
Ke$ha, who originally wrote the track for the pop princess, takes part in singing the club-ready track's chorus. Spears soon takes back control of the song as Ke$ha shadows the singer's lines toward the end of the second verse and bridge. Unlike the original version, the "Till the World Ends" remix also features a stuttering dubstep dance break.
News of a star-studded collaboration was hinted earlier this week when producer Dr. Luke tweeted, "@NICKIMINAJ killed it tonight!!!! thanks!!!"

Google, data centers using less power than expected

Data centers have been using less electricity than you think ... or at least, compared with what they have in the past. According to a study by Jonathan Koomey, a consulting professor at Stanford and a climate and energy researcher, data center energy use in the last five years rose only about 56 percent vs. doubling in the period between 2000 and 2005. And in the U.S., it rose only 36 percent instead of doubling.Olivia Palermo wiz kalifah amber rose Lady Gaga’s

They both make the ladies swoon, and they both bring the bang to the box office. But only one can be Forbes' highest-paid leading man. This year that distinction goes to "Inception" star Leonardo DiCaprio, who beats out last year's winner, Johnny Depp.
According to Forbes.com, "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Depp topped the list in 2010 with $75 million but this year drops to #2, raking in a still-impressive $50 million. DiCaprio, however, was able to break his previous record by making $77 million in 2010 thanks to the success of flicks like "Shutter Island" and "Inception."
Both Depp and DiCaprio are sure to keep their profiles high thanks to a slew of upcoming projects on both their dockets. DiCaprio is set to star in "J. Edgar," "The Great Gatsby" and "Django Unchained." Meanwhile, Depp has upcoming films "Dark Shadows" and "21 Jump Street" on his plate.
They weren't the only Hollywood heavyweights making bank in the last 12 months. Adam Sandler nabs the #3 spot thanks to box-office smashes like "Grown Ups," which helped earn him an estimated $40 million in 2010. Will Smith lands at #4 on the list with an impressive $36 million salary. And "Larry Crowne" himself, Tom Hanks, who squeaked out $35 million, lands at #5 on the list.
The list is compiled by Forbes based on earnings made during the period between May 1, 2010, and May 1, 2011. According to the magazine, the estimations are made based on interviews with agents, lawyers, producers and other industry insiders.
Last month, Forbes released its list of highest-paid actresses, with a bevy of beauties like Sarah Jessica Parker, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, Kristen Stewart and Reese Witherspoon making the list.

Ke$ha Is Channeling 'Sexiness' Of '70s Rock For New Album

Glitter-heavy pop star tells MTV News she's going for 'balls-out, irreverent rock and roll.'By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias

Ke$ha

Photo: MTV News

Ke$ha's already got the face paint down pat, and, during recent live sets, she's even taken to guzzling blood out of a human heart, so it should come as no surprise that, on her upcoming album, the pop star is taking things back to the most theatrical era of rock: the prop-heavy, arena-spanning heyday of the 1970s.
Ke$h revealed her plans over the weekend in Los Angeles, on the red carpet of KIIS FM's annual Wango Tango concert, where she told MTV News that the follow-up to her breakout Animal album (and, we suppose, Cannibal too) would be heavy on hard riffs and light on pretty much everything else.

"The next album ... I've been working on writing on the road, but as far as a sound, I just know it's gonna be balls-out, irreverent rock and roll," she said. "I've been pretty much in this '70s rock and roll kick and I just want to capture some of the true essence of what rock and roll is, and that's just irreverence and sexiness and fun and not giving a f---, so we'll definitely put a bit of rock and roll in it."
So, does that mean that fans can expect the likes of Alice Cooper or Peter Frampton to show up on her new album? Perhaps. Because while Ke$ha's new album is still a ways off, she's already begun calling in favors, hoping to line up a killer collabo for the new disc.
"I'm trying, trust me," she laughed. "I really would love to connect with one of my idols, I mean, that's my dream. I'm working on it."
What do you think of Ke$ha going rock for her next album? Tell us in the comments!

'Crazy, Stupid, Love.': The Reviews Are In!

Critics single out memorable performances by Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell in this 'crazy smart film.' By Kara Warner

Ryan Gosling in "Crazy, Stupid, Love."

Although the summer season is packed with big, noisy, CGI-enhanced blockbusters, studio executives are wise to the fact that not everyone wants to see flashy, action-heavy films, so they smartly offer up counter-programming in the form of romantic comedies. This week's star-studded "Crazy, Stupid, Love." is a perfect example, underscored by its 74 percent "fresh" rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

The film revolves around Cal Weaver (Steve Carell), whose wife (Julianne Moore) has recently announced her infidelity (the "other man" is played by Kevin Bacon) and requested a divorce. Cal takes his sorrows to a singles' bar, where he's adopted by local ladies' man Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). Jacob educates Cal in the new ways of wooing the ladies, and although Cal picks up some decent skills, his heart is in the wrong place: He's looking for that elusive true love, a soul mate.
Cal is also dealing with the fact that his adolescent son Robbie (Jonah Bobo) is in love with his teenage babysitter (Analeigh Tipton), who in turn is in love with Cal. Meanwhile, Jacob eventually realizes that he's still pining for the woman (Emma Stone) who got away.
Critics seem to be most pleased with the film's ensemble cast, with only a few grumbles about clichéd plot twists and turns. Without further ado, let's dive into the "Crazy, Stupid, Love." reviews.
The Story
"Just because it stars smart actors and isn't aggressively dumb doesn't automatically make it good, and while 'Crazy, Stupid, Love.' works in fits and starts, its wildly inconsistent tone and Dan Fogelman's overwritten screenplay make it too frustrating to properly enjoy. Every time one of the many plot threads hits its stride, another careens wildly out of control, leading up to a conclusion so clichéd it seems the movie has moved into parody." — Katey Rich, Cinema Blend
Ensemble Cast and Performances
"Frequently, the zaniness stops and some genuinely impressive acting breaks out. The accomplished Moore is an obvious candidate and, even in a confined role, she delivers — here a nervous look, there a tender gesture. Cast against type, his customarily troubled characters, Gosling is all dressed up (and occasionally undressed) in a fashion guaranteed to set hearts aflutter. But the guy is too skilled to settle for a hunky stereotype; rather, he rescues the roué from cliché by adding a certain delicacy, a repressed yet palpable sensitivity. ... Although not in their performing league, Carell is blessed to have a faint hint of Buster Keaton in his otherwise handsome face — a mug whose deadpan stare is fraught with comic nuance. Even the kid actor is a cut above here. Jonah Bobo brings to Robbie that adolescent knack of travelling at warp speed from deep cynicism to idealistic innocence." — Rick Groen, The Globe and Mail
The Final Word
"It's hard to ignore the fact that very little in the movie feels true — no one clicks as a couple, and there are carefully contrived coincidences around every corner. ... But while the filmmakers bungle the romance, they handle the comedy with skillful precision. I laughed all the way through, thanks to both consistently clever dialogue and deft delivery from Carell and Gosling, who clearly relished a chance to flex his comic muscles." — Elizabeth Weitzman, Daily News
"This film is the total of all its parts, from the string-bean beauty Tipton to the sly adolescent Bobo and all the veterans. It's notable that no one — not even Bacon's character — is a villain in this film. They're all just people looking for, wrestling with and falling in love. ... This is the sort of film that Oscar generally ignores come awards season. It shouldn't. "Crazy, Stupid, Love," is a crazy smart film." — Tom Long, Detroit News
