Finding new value in data overload

Business intelligence is almost always among the top technology priorities of big companies. Yet by most accounts, satisfaction with business intelligence often falls short of expectations. Reasons abound: poor data quality, cost overruns, inaccessible data sources, and our old friend, miscommunication of requirements. But businesses don't like to fly without instruments. So year after year, companies pony up for business intelligence initiatives despite lackluster results.Best Jeans for Men 2011 egypt protests obama gun grabbing juliana ramos car accident

Developers split over Mac App Store license swaps

Even for those users who have been buying and downloading software on their own for years, the Mac App Store's promise of license code banishment, convenient multi-Mac licenses, and effortless one-click installation are hard to ignore. There's just one problem. If you've amassed a collection of Mac software over time, Apple doesn't offer a way to turn your existing app licenses into Mac App Store equivalents--and so far it has shown no intention of changing its tune.Helena Bonham Carter Olivia Palermo wiz kalifah amber rose

Ke$ha Pokes Fun At Disney In New Funny Or Die Clip

Pop singer plays a dirty Disney princess in online parody.By Jocelyn Vena

Ke$ha in Funny or Die's "Disney's Princess Ke$ha" video

Photo: Funny Or Die

Ever wonder what it would be like if Disney gave Ke$ha her very own movie? Well wonder no more, since the folks over at Funny or Die have dreamed up a new Ke$ha-starring satire, "Disney's Princess Ke$ha."

The clip opens with Ke$ha in a castle bedroom addressing her animated pals, complaining about her alarm clock waking her up. "Oh that clock. What a killjoy," she says as she stares out of her window in the castle tower. Just as she begins singing a very Disney melody, she proclaims it "gross" and says "f--- it," before kicking off a signature Ke$ha-style tune, complete with her rap-sing style and club-ready beat.
"Time to get the day going/ Dress it up to the nines/ Yo, critter crew/ Make Princess Ke$ha look fine," she sings. "Add a little pinch of magic from my fairy-tale life and off we go." Then she goes into the chorus: "I'm getting ready so nice / I'm getting customized."
The pop star is later catapulted into the real world. In an alley, she meets up with an animated rat, a pumpkin and a cross-dressing hobo fairy godmother. The rat and pumpkin are transformed into a shopping cart and a man who take off with Ke$ha.
This is the singer's second appearance on the site. Last November she appeared in a clip where she jokingly explained "The Story of the $."
"I used to be Kesha with an S, instead of a dollar sign, and then one year I had my birthday party at Shakey's Pizza," she said in the clip. "On the sign, the big sign where they write 'Happy birthday,' they replaced the S with a dollar sign. It ruined my life. I wanted to be a CPA, but you know who H&R Block doesn't hire? People with dollar signs in their name. I pretty much had to be a pop star."

Ke$ha Enlists James Van Der Beek For 'Blow' Video

Singer and former 'Dawson's Creek' star battle it out in her new music video.By Jocelyn Vena

Ke$ha in her video for "Blow"

Photo: RCA

Ke$ha's new music video for her song "Blow" opens with this disclaimer: "No mythological creatures were harmed in the making of this video."
Ke$ha isn't referring to "Dawson's Creek" star James Van Der Beek, who makes a cameo in the video, which was directed by Chris Marrs Piliero. She's referring to the champagne-swilling, hard-partying unicorns that also make an appearance in the video, which takes place at a society party.

Looking glossy and glam in her one-shoulder dress, she tells two unicorns, "I grabbed the bear by the throat, looked him right in the eyes and said, 'Bear you have until the count of zero to put some pants on and apologize to the president. And that's the story of how I was elected to the parliament of Uzbekistan."
She then giggles as she looks into the camera, telling viewers to "dance." Soon, she locks eyes with Van Der Beek. Ke$ha and Van Der Beek exchange glances as they make their way through the party. Scenes of their longing (and unicorns dancing with one another) are edited with scenes of Ke$ha, in a bodysuit, mugging for the camera, singing the song and kissing more unicorns.
Van Der Beek begins stripping off his suit jacket and dances his way towards the singer, who then pulls off her bra from under her gown. He follows suit, leaving viewers laughing and Ke$ha understandably perplexed about why he wears a bra under his dress shirt.
"Well, well, well ... if it isn't James Van Der Douche," she says.
"I don't appreciate you slander-beeking my name," Van Der Beek replies.
After snipping at one another and trading barbs, they begin shooting lasers at one another in a battle sequence, knocking down and killing rainbow-shooting unicorns in the process. In the end, it's revealed that Ke$ha has killed the actor and mounted his head on her wall, laughing off the encounter. The plaque in which his head is displayed reads "James Van Der Dead."

Andre 3000 Pops Up On Ke$ha's 'Sleazy' Remix

Outkast MC freshens up the pop star's Cannibal cut with rare feature.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Andre 3000

Photo: Michael Buckner/Getty Images

It seems the only way to find spankin'-new Andre 3000 lyrics these days is on the odd remix, and the ATLien definitely picked a left-of-center choice for his latest feature.
On Friday (January 14), a remix of Ke$ha's Cannibal track "Sleazy" hit the Web, outfitted with some brand-new bars from the elusive Outkast MC. The southern spitter uses the revamp to muse about a young kid dealing with a deadbeat dad over the song's bouncy thump.
"We start out so cute in our baby pictures/ That mama shot for our daddy so that he wouldn't forget you/ He forgot anyway, but hey, one day he'll remember/ If not, he's human, I'm human, you human, we'll forgive him," he spits.
After sounding off about daddy issues, Stacks then rhymes about his playful relationship with the glitter-friendly poptress.
"I call her Keisha, she like it because it's hood to her/ She call me Andre 6000 because I'm good to her," he says.
The remix follows a slew of random guest appearances on records by everyone from DJ Unk to Rich Boy as fans await another full-length release from 'Dre. Back in 2008, the Love Below lyricist broke down his affinity for jumping on the occasional remix to MTV News, explaining that cooking up another quality solo record is no easy task.
"I've been doing remixes here and there, and let me tell you, thank God for remixes. I wanna tell everybody who's been checking out the remixes and things like the John Legend song ['Green Light']: In this day and age, those are the things that have kind of been keeping me alive. Because it takes me awhile to record albums," he said. "I have to kind of build up something to say."

Mark Ruffalo Reveals Hulk Re-Design For 'Avengers'

'All the features are mine, just really big,' actor says of new look. By Shawn Adler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Mark Ruffalo

Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty

Mark Ruffalo will soon join Edward Norton and Eric Bana as the third actor to portray Dr. Bruce Banner in as many big-screen adventures, but when the Incredible Hulk finally lines up next to Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the rest of Marvel's mightiest to take on evils no single one of them can handle on their own, it won't just be the good doctor you'll have trouble recognizing: It might be the jade giant himself.

"The Avengers" will diverge from previous versions of the character and feature its own re-designed rendering of the green behemoth to more accurately reflect the new actor playing him, Ruffalo revealed to MTV News on the red carpet at the Independent Spirit Awards.
Ruffalo said the character's designers are working hard to make the Hulk look like him: "All the features are mine, just really big. I got to see the maquette of the Hulk yesterday in full scope, and it's awesome."
The re-design makes the most of new technology being utilized for the flick, with Ruffalo donning performance-capture suits akin to the ones used by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana for "Avatar." According to the Oscar-nominated actor, it'll be the first time the same actor has played both incarnations of the character.
"I'll be playing it. I'm the first actor to actually do it in motion capture as the Hulk," he said.
Back when the project was initially announced, rumors swirled that the Hulk might actually start out as the villain, tricked perhaps by Loki, as he did when the Avengers first assembled in comics.
While predictably tight-lipped about his role in the plot, Ruffalo did compliment the script, insisting that the film was right "in [director] Joss Whedon's wheelhouse."
"It's cool. It's gonna be great," he enthused. "The script is a nice combination of funny with pathos."

'Drive Angry' Stars Discuss Film's Most Outrageous Moments

'I'm still kind of amazed that they let me drink beer out of somebody's skull,' Nicolas Cage marvels to MTV News.By Kara Warner

Amber Heard

Photo: MTV News

If the trailers haven't already sold the fact that "Drive Angry" is outrageous, in every sense of the word, allow the cast of the film -- Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, Billy Burke and William Fichtner -- to expand on the subject, particularly the scenes they thought would be left on the cutting-room floor.
"I'm still kind of amazed that they let me drink beer out of somebody's skull," Cage admitted to MTV News recently of his character's most over-the-top antics. "That that's still in the movie, and it's a credit to [director] Patrick Lussier that he had the guts to go in the most far-out places."

"Only in our movie, in the world of 'Drive Angry,' " Heard said.
"I wanted it to look good, like, 'My cup runneth over,' " Cage explained of the big moment. "I wanted the beer to come sploshing out of the eye sockets."
Burke, who plays a very disturbed and psychotic cult leader hell-bent on infant sacrifice in the film, said he figured that one of the film's climactic scenes would receive a less intensely violent edit.
"I thought that we would probably change sacrificing a baby to maybe a lamb or something like that," Burke said. "I didn't think that we'd actually go forward with wanting to kill a baby, but we did, and that's the kind of movie this is. So if you can't take that, for the fun and spirit in which it's intended, then you shouldn't go see this movie," he advised.
For scene-stealer Fichtner, who plays the mysterious character the Accountant, he was most surprised that a very racy/violent love scene made the cut.
"There was one scene in the movie, we all know which one I'm talking about [a 'creative' sex scene in which Cage engages in a gunfight with a naked woman still on top of him] where I thought, 'Wow, that's interesting,' " he said. "That's a challenge."
In addition to the outrageousness of wrapping your head around what happens in that scene, Fichtner said he has great respect for the actors and stunt coordinators who made it happen.
"Patrick [Lussier] did an amazing job and so did Charlotte [Ross] and Nic," he said. "It's much more than just a sex scene."
Check out everything we've got on "Drive Angry."

Justin Bieber Wax Statues: What Hairstyle Will They Have?

Madame Tussauds figures will debut in March.By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber

Photo: Gilbert Carrasquillo/ Getty Images

This March, Justin Bieber's wax likeness will be hitting three Madame Tussauds wax museums. Outposts in London, New York and Amsterdam will all house statues of the teen pop sensation. And, since Bieber decided to have his trademark locks lopped off last weekend, fans may be wondering what kind of hairstyle the statues will feature. Well, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the likenesses will in fact sport Bieber's signature swoop.

"We have been absolutely inundated with requests from young fans from around the world to see him," Liz Edwards, head of PR at Madame Tussauds, explained. "We're sure his fans will be just as delighted as we are that Justin will be joining the A-list."
THR further reported that Bieber will be the headlining act at the museum's music zone, an interactive area that also features stars like Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake. It's reported that Bieber sat for his statue late last year.
"We're capturing a moment in time," Bret Pidgeon, general manager of Madame Tussauds New York, told E! News about the statue. "Capturing what he looks like right now."
Pidgeon also hinted about the hair that would appear on the statue. "We're going to wait to see how the new haircut takes with the fans ... It'll be part of the excitement for the final launch day," he added, noting that Bieber will be on hand at one of the unveilings.
Reps for the museum never responded to MTV News' request for further information by press time.
"I'm honored to be getting my own wax figures," Bieber said in a press statement. "To be immortalized in wax alongside some of my idols — Michael Jackson, Prince, Beyonce and my mentor, Usher — is incredibly exciting and very cool."
A long line of other music stars also have had their likenesses cast in wax for display at Madame Tussauds locations. In the past few years, teen idols like the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and even Lady Gaga have all received the honor from the famed institution.
Do plan to visit a Madame Tussauds to check out Justin's wax figure? Let us know in the comments.

Ne-Yo And Fabolous Working On Best Of Both Worlds LP

'[There's] something about his voice and my voice that makes sense together,' Libra Scale crooner tells MTV News of a Jay-Z/R. Kelly-style album.By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Rahman Dukes

Ne-Yo

Photo: MTV News

Grammy-winning R&B crooner Ne-Yo is working on a couple of projects, including a new solo album and a collaborative LP with rapper Fabolous.

The singer/songwriter's fourth album, Libra Scale, was only released last November, but during NBA All-Star Weekend he told MTV News that since some fans may not have gravitated to the project like his past work, he's already back on the grind.
"I'm actually working on a new album as we speak," Ne-Yo revealed. "Libra Scale was a project, it was an experiment. The people that got it, got it. The people that didn't, it's all good. I got a little cool for the room, I understand that. But this next album is more about just listening to the music, vibing out, determine your own adventure, back to what it is I normally do. Be looking for that around September."
Ne-Yo's standards are high, considering Libra Scale debuted at #9 on the Billboard albums chart and got favorable reviews in the press. The singer performed a medley of songs from the LP at the 2010 American Music Awards. But the album didn't match the commercial success of its predecessor, Year of the Gentleman, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in 2008, selling about 250,000 copies its first week in stores.
Ne-Yo's upcoming project is still untitled, as is a planned joint project with Brooklyn rapper Fabolous. The Def Jam labelmates have worked together before, with Ne-Yo lending his vocals to Fabolous' 2007 hit single "Make Me Better," both artists appearing on Jamie Foxx's "She Got Her Own" the following year and Fab giving a verse to Ne-Yo's "Crazy Love," from Libra.
"We have been talking about getting in, trying to do kind of a Best of Both Worlds-type vibe situation," Ne-Yo said, referring to 2002's joint album from Jay-Z and R. Kelly. "It's just something about his voice and my voice that makes sense together. We been kicking ideas around and I can't say exactly when to look for it, but definitely look for it. Keep your eyes peeled, we'll be out there."

Oscar Preview: David Fincher Vs. Tom Hooper For Best Director

Though 'King's Speech' is the established front-runner, 'Social Network' director may be more deserving of Academy Award.By Eric Ditzian

Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg in "The Social Network"

Photo: Sony Pictures

Can we begin speaking about the Best Director race by shouting out a man whose mug won't be thrust up on the screen when the Academy Award category is presented on Sunday night? Would that be dredging up sour — at this point, moldy — grapes? Too bad!

Let's kick off this installment of MTV News' Oscar previews by stating something that should not be forgotten: "Inception" director Christopher Nolan got robbed. Dude made maybe the brainiest popcorn flick in history — one whose story shifted between five separate realities, yet managed both to avoid being excessively confusing and to reward further viewings. It grossed over $820 million worldwide and earned Nolan directorial nods from the Golden Globes, Directors Guild of America and British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). And yet, no directorial Oscar nod? Please! A Best Picture nomination at the Oscars is welcome, surely, but simply not enough. Mr. Nolan, we'll pour one out for you and continue on with the preview.
That snub aside, only two directors ever really had a chance to triumph in this category — Tom Hooper for "The King's Speech" and David Fincher for "The Social Network" — and on Oscar night, either one could win.
In Hooper's favor is the fact that "The King's Speech" has established itself as the general front-runner, leading the field with 12 Oscar nominations and dominating the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Producers Guild Awards and the DGAs, among others. The DGAs are historically a very accurate predictor of the Best Director winner at the Oscars; only six times has the DGA winner failed to win the Oscar, most recently in 2002 when Rob Marshall ("Chicago") won the DGA but lost out to Roman Polanski ("The Pianist") for the Oscar. What's more, Oscar blogger Sasha Stone points out that only once before — with "Gladiator" in 2000 — has a Best Picture winner with 12 nominations lost out on the Directing award. So if we accept that "The King's Speech" is a lock to win Best Picture, we'd be taking on serious odds if we argued Hooper will lose to Fincher.
Our heads, then, tell us Hooper will come out on top. Yet our hearts keep telling us the "Social Network" director will end up the victor. Not because he won the BAFTA. Not because we think voters don't have a vested interest in punishing Fincher for declining to endure the tiresome glad-handing traditionally expected of nominees and instead going off to shoot "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" in Scandinavia. No, we have a feeling Fincher is going to eke out a win because he's the most deserving nominee.
Like Nolan, Fincher weaved together several different realities — in his case, one Harvard-based present and two lawsuit-consumed flash-forwards — gracefully and without a touch of audience bewilderment. Credit, of course, also has to go to scribe Aaron Sorkin and editors Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter (all of whom are nominated in their respective categories), but Fincher is a known control freak and, in the end, "The Social Network" is his baby. His storytelling facility combined with his movie's au courant theme of digital, often insincere interconnection at the expense of compassion and true relationship-building make for a potent combination.
With "The King's Speech" and "The Fighter" potentially dominating the major categories, voters might well decide "The Social Network" deserves some top-tier love in the form of a Fincher win. In fact, we're going to take a risk, avoid any fence-sitting and call it: David Fincher will win this year's Oscar for Best Director.
Will it be a regal evening for "The King's Speech"? Can "The Social Network" dial up Oscar gold? Don't miss MTV News' "2011 Oscars Live" at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 27, when we'll be chatting with your favorite Hollywood stars live from the red carpet on MTVNews.com, and stick with us all Oscar night for winners, interviews, photos and more!

Justin Bieber's Never Say Never - The Remixes Tops Billboard Chart

In a week that saw plenty of post-Grammy sales bumps, it's Bieber who reigns supreme.By James Montgomery

Justin Bieber

Photo: Mark Von Holden/ WireImage

In a week in which the post-Grammy sales boom finally took hold, sending several long-dormant albums rocketing back up the charts, it was the kid who got shut out at the big show who ended up topping the charts.
Justin Bieber's Never Say Never - The Remixes debuts at #1 on next week's Billboard top 200 albums chart, giving the pop star the second chart-topping bow of his young career. The album sold more than 161,000 copies, easily surpassing Mumford & Sons' breakout Sigh No More, which benefited from the group's Grammy-night performance with Bob Dylan (and the Avett Brothers), selling nearly 133,000 copies — a 169 percent increase in sales from the previous week — to hold steady at #2.
Former chart champ the Now 37 compilation lands at #3, with sales of nearly 95,000 copies, and Lady Antebellum — who not only performed at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, but took home the awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year — posted a 205 percent sales jump, selling more than 85,000 copies to snag the #4 spot.
Grammy winner and performer Bruno Mars' Doo-Wops & Hooligans sold nearly 61,000 copies (a 55 percent burst in sales) to come in at #5, followed by a host of other Grammy beneficiaries: Eminem's Recovery at #6 (nearly 61,000 copies sold), the 2011 Grammy Nominees compilation (#7, nearly 56,000 copies sold), Bieber's My World, 2.0 (#8, more than 54,000 copies), and Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday (#9, nearly 46,000 copies). Rihanna's Loud rounds out the top 10, with sales of more than 45,000 copies sold.
That Grammy bump continues outside the top 10 too, starting with Katy Perry's Teenage Dream, which, thanks to her Grammy performance, jumped 30 percent in sales, moving nearly 42,000 units to land at #11. Surprise Album of the Year winners Arcade Fire's The Suburbs posted a 238 percent sales jump to come in at #12, selling more than 40,000 copies ... and moving past the 500,000 mark in total sales as a result.
Other winners and performers who leapt up the charts include Florence and the Machine, whose Lungs moved from #28 to #19; Cee Lo Green's The Lady Killer (from #53 to #22); Lady Gaga's The Fame (from #35 to #23); and the Black Keys' Brothers, which posted a 25 percent sales jump to grab the #24 spot.
Aside from Bieber's Never Say Never, other notable Billboard debuts include Bright Eyes' The People's Key, which opened at #12 with sales of nearly 41,000 copies, Hillsong United's Aftermath (#17, with sales of more than 27,000 copies), Ginuwine's Elgin (#30, with sales of more than 19,000 copies), and PJ Harvey's Let England Shake, which bows at #32 with sales of nearly 18,000.

Justin Bieber's 'CSI' Appearance: A Cheat Sheet

Everything you need to know before Thursday's (February 17) episode.By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber appears on "CSI"

Photo: CBS

Last September, Justin Bieber made his first of two appearances on "CSI." In the episode, he played a troubled teen named Jason McCann. Amid plot twists and bomb explosions, fans were left wondering if young Jason was more trouble than he seemed.
Bieber returned to the "CSI" set in January, and while on set, he was hospitalized with an allergic reaction. But Bieber was fine enough to finish shooting his big second episode, "A Target of Obsession," which airs Thursday night (February 17).

"CSI" star George Eads, who plays Bieber's foil in the episode (Nick Stokes), revealed that Jason wouldn't live to see another day by the episode's end. "One of my crew guys goes, 'Man, you're going to split the country down the middle — half of them are going to hate you and half of them are going to love you,' " Eads said. "In the context of the story, he deserved it. I think in a way I was also at fault for killing Taylor Swift, too. Man, I'm going to have to stay away from a lot of people. Tell Miley Cyrus not to come on our show."
Bieber told MTV News earlier this month that he really loved being involved in the whole process of making the episode, including his fake death.
"Yeah, I get killed in the episode. I definitely get murdered," he revealed. "It was really cool because I actually — I get shot, like, several times," he revealed. "I fall down, and there's fake blood and everything. It's crazy how the whole process is."
Bieber also shared that he enjoyed stretching his bad-boy muscle for the part. "I'm not a bad person, so it's funny to play a bad person," he explained.
As for why the pop star chose "CSI" for his acting debut, he said, "I wanted to do something that's going to be challenging for me, and it's definitely going to be. It has been."

Snoop Dogg And R. Kelly Strive For 'Greatness' On 'Platinum'

West Coast icon Snoop Dogg and Chicago R&B veteran R. Kelly teamed up with production whiz kid Lex Luger for the booming track "Platinum." Snoop sat down with MTV News to talk about the track, which will be featured on his 11th studio album, Doggumentary, saying his and R. Kelly's approach to music is what made their partnership a natural and familiar fit.

"I think me and Kells understand who we are and what we do to make each other better," Snoop said. "He has a deep love for music, and sometimes he goes over the head of the people that's listening just like myself, because we're too in-depth with music. We don't just listen to our genre. We find ourselves enjoying all walks of music."
In his 20-year career, Snoop somehow possesses the hunger of a hip-hop up-and-comer. He explained the reason behind that drive and how R. Kelly helped him on this latest journey.
"We wanna be great. We don't wanna make cool records. Because any time I hear R. Kelly, he's great," the cool Californian said. "Whenever he hears Snoop Dogg, I'm great. So why not come together and make some greatness?"
The song, however, almost didn't make the final cut, as Snoop had finished up recording the album. Snoop's friend previewed the Lex Luger track for the rapper, which impressed him enough to jot down a few bars. After sending his sketch to Kelly, the crooner replied with his own rough demo, leading the pair to finally complete the record.
What do you think about the combo of Snoop and Kells? Let us know in the comments!

Britney Spears Added Her 'Flavor' To 'Hold It Against Me' Fight Scene

Martial-arts expert Steven Ho talks to MTV News about working on the new video.By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears fights herself in "Hold It Against Me"

Last week, fans were treated to the premiere of Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" video. The sleek, dark look at celebrity life was a new aesthetic for the star, who hooked up with Jonas Åkerlund on the clip.

While her dance scenes were choreographed by Brian Friedman, it was noted Hollywood martial-arts expert Steven Ho who helped Britney work out the moves to battle herself in the video.
"I've been very fortunate to have worked on a wide range of high-profile projects, and the video's producer, Hagai Shaham, thought my style would be a good fit with Jonas and Britney. I was brought in to train Britney, choreograph the fight and set up wires for the levitation shots," he told MTV News about joining the project.
"I've always wanted to work with Jonas," he continued. "I knew that a stylized fight would translate well with his trademark visuals, so I was thrilled about doing this project. Jonas wanted a superhuman fight with elements of brutality — that's right up my alley of how I approach an action scene, so we were definitely all on the same page throughout the process."
Not only were Åkerlund and Ho onboard for some mortal combat, but the star herself warmed up to the idea of battling a clone. "Britney was really excited throughout the whole process. It was a grueling shoot of dance and stunts, but her passion for the video and professionalism never wavered," he explained. "There were some pretty tough insert shots where we needed Britney to actually get hit in the face by 'herself.' We did several consecutive takes of this, and she had a lot of fun with it and was a great sport.
"Britney was very enthusiastic about learning how to fight; she's an athlete," he added. "I got that Jonas' concept was partially about the duality of self — we all deal with that, so who wouldn't have fun fighting their alter egos?"
The key, it seems, was making Ho's fight moves work with Friedman's dance routine. "It was really great working with Brian; he's an absolute professional. He was diligent about our fight style being cohesive with the dancing, and that's why it worked so well," Ho recalled. "Our rehearsals were on the same stage, so it was very helpful to have Brian's feedback from a dancer's point of view."
It seems that one of the most memorable moves in the fight, Spears' quickstep during the smack-down, was all her own.
"Britney was fantastic about incorporating what we had practiced in rehearsal, and as a consummate performer, she was able to take ownership by adding her own flavor to the fight. There's a quick cut in the video that features Britney taking a series of small shuffle steps in her heels. This is something she came up with herself that I thought added a nice break of 'cuteness' in the fight," he said. "Jonas drowned out the music here to highlight the tapping sounds, and it's really one of my favorite beats of the video."
Aside from the two Britneys, the other main characters in the fight were her sky-high heels and flowing gowns. "The wardrobe was one of the stars of the fight," he explained. "At first I was concerned about how to approach the long trains. There were discussions with Jonas and [stylist] B. [Åkerlund] and [fashion assistant Renelou Padora] about possibly shortening the train for safety issues. After I showed my wife [designer Nina Petronzio] the pictures of the dresses, she literally said, 'I will kill you if you cut those trains down.' We ended up incorporating the trains as 'weapons.' We treated them as if they were sharp blades, giving Britney reason to jump and evade around them."

Microsoft accuses former manager of stealing confidential strategy docs

Microsoft has accused a former manager of taking hundreds of megabytes of confidential company material when he left the firm for a new position at CRM rival Salesforce.com. It seems Miranda Lambert is nothing short of unstoppable in the country-music industry. The 27-year-old singer, who won big at the CMA Awards back in November, now leads the pack for the Academy of Country Music Awards nominations, with seven nods.
Lambert will vie for the evening's biggest prize, Entertainer of the Year, against fellow nominees Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and country's other leading lady, Taylor Swift, who earned four nods total this year, including Album of the Year for her chart-topper Speak Now. For the third year, Entertainer of the Year will be voted on by fans.
Lambert can also be found in the Top Female Vocalist of the Year category, as well as Single Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her #1 radio hit "The House That Built Me." She's also been nominated alongside country royalty, as she and Loretta Lynn, along with Sheryl Crow, are up for Vocal Event of the Year for their rendition of "Coal Miner's Daughter."
The news comes just two weeks before Lambert is scheduled to appear at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards, where she will attend as a nominee and performer.
Following Lambert are Kenny Chesney and the Zac Brown Band, with five nominations each. Other notable nominees for the 2011 ceremony include Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland and newcomers the Band Perry.
The 46th annual Academy of Country Music Awards will air live on CBS on April 3 at 8 p.m.

Taylor Swift Gets Valentine's Day 'Enchanted' Cover From Owl City

Adam Young posts his own version of her song, which was rumored to be about him.By Jocelyn Vena

Taylor Swift famously writes songs about the guys in her life. And while she doesn't always say specifically who those songs are about, it seems one of the subjects of her melodic affections, Owl City's Adam Young, has figured out that he's the guy behind the Speak Now track "Enchanted." (Swift hinted to Yahoo! Music last year that the song might have been about him.)
"The track is absolutely gorgeous and I'm so tremendously honored that Taylor would write such an elegant song and thereby offer a gracious nod in my direction. Needless to say, I was lost for words and utterly smitten. I couldn't stop smiling," he wrote Monday (February 14) on his website. "I figured such an eloquent gesture should be reciprocated by the most polite, heartfelt and respectful response I could possibly muster. It's no secret that I'm a bit shy, so naturally music was the most articulate way of attempting such a sincere endeavor. How does one respond to such a personal outpouring of emotion and sentiment? I tossed and turned over that one."
As a gesture fitting for a day like Valentine's Day, Young wrote a response to Swift's song. "They say 'timing is everything' and that brings us to now. Today is Valentine's Day," he said. "And thus, here is my reply..."
On the synthy ballad, he sings to the star, "I was never in love with someone else/ I never had somebody waiting on me/ 'Cause you were all of my dreams come true/ And I just wish you knew/ Taylor, I was so in love with you."
He went on to post a photo of himself with the star. The pair stand smiling, hugging one another in the photo. "Everything about you is beautiful. You're an immensely charming girl with a wonderful heart and more grace and elegance than I know how to describe. You are a true princess from a dreamy fairy tale; a modern Cinderella," he goes on to say in the blog post. "I'm terribly sorry it's taken me such a long time to reply but I figured Valentine's Day was the perfect time to write this note to you and simply say... I was enchanted to meet you too."

One person's trash is another's treasure

One thing I've noticed about working in IT is that it seems like those with the know-it-all attitude about technology are the ones who are the most ignorant about computers. They also get into all kinds of scrapes because they haven't taken the time to learn otherwise or they've resisted any help. I've seen this attitude in many end-users, but one of the most memorable experiences I've encountered happened about 10 years ago. A member of No Doubt since the ska band's inception, guitarist Tom Dumont welcomed another member into his family early morning Saturday (February 19) with the birth of his third child, Koa Thomas Dumont, according to an announcement on the popular band's Twitter page.
"Koa Thomas Dumont was born this morning at 5am. Baby boy & parents are great," the band tweeted. "Looks like his brothers! One more No Doubt baby in the world!"
Koa Thomas joins Dumont's other two children, all with wife Mieke, siblings Ace Joseph (4) and Rio Atticus (2). He also joins a growing brood of No Doubt children (all the band members have kids), including Adrian Young's son Mason, bassist Tony Kanal's daughter Coco Reese, and Gwen Stefani's two sons with husband Gavin Rossdale, Kingston and Zuma.
"Congratulations to Tom and Mieke on the arrival of Baby Boy Koa!" read a message from band mates Tony, Gwen, and Adrian on Twitter. "We are so happy for you! Can't wait to meet him!!!"
2011 should be a busy year for No Doubt. Ten years after their last studio album, the band spent 2010 writing and recording their decade-in-the making follow-up.
"This process does take us awhile, it always has. Plus life is a little more complicated and busy than it was before we all had kids etc," Dumont wrote on the band's website on January 4. "So the goal is to write a couple songs more this year and of course finish recording all of them. We're really, really happy with the new songs and feel this great sense of momentum going into the new year."

Ke$ha Rises From Oddball To Icon In 2010

This year, nobody defied description quite like Ke$ha, the pop oddity who shows no signs of slowing down.By James Montgomery

Ke$ha

Photo: Venturelli/ Getty Images

In January, when "Tik Tok" was just starting to hit, I described Ke$ha as "a 22-year-old pop confectionary/cautionary tale." By November, when "We R Who We R" debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, I had crowned her an "outcast icon." The truth probably lies somewhere in between those two statements, but if there's a better way to sum up the pop star's rather incredible rise to fame, I am unaware of it.

Because in 2010, there really was no one else who came close to matching Ke$ha, whether in terms of sheer chart dominance ("Tik Tok," enjoyed the year's longest run at #1, spending nine weeks atop the Hot 100), or pure WTF-ery. She began the year as a belching, squelching, booze-swilling party monster and ended it as perhaps the most unlikely of role models — an unrepentant oddball who not only dared to speak her mind, but defy conventions, too. And through it all, she remained largely unclassifiable, shifting between genres (pop, hip-hop, rock) and personas (dumpster-diving diva, Topanga Canyon bohemian, DayGlo star child) with each successive hit. And because of that, Ke$ha became one of the year's most interesting characters, the kind of pop oddity that leaves critics alternately grasping at adjectives and scratching their heads.
"I think 'What is Ke$ha?' is definitely the question, more than 'Who is Ke$ha?' because the 'What?' is really the thing," New York Times writer Jon Caramanica told MTV News. "When she first came into the game, she was this pop singer with a little bit of a country background, but [doing] this sort of whiny, white-girl rap ... but, if anything, 'Tik Tok' proved there's an entire audience of people who are pop fans, but who have a really high tolerance for rap music. Maybe they're not going to buy a Kanye West record, but they're not unafraid of hip-hop. And with Ke$ha, and her loose, 'I don't give a f---' approach to making these songs resonates with the loose, 'I don't give a f---' approach of the fans in listening to the songs. They hear something of themselves in her."
Of course, Ke$ha suffered for her, uh, art, becoming one of the year's most popular punching bags — particularly following a pair of bizarre performances on "Saturday Night Live" — but as the year draws to a close, her grip on the pop world seems to be permanent. Not only is she the unlikeliest of stars, she's also one of the most persistent ... and love her or hate her, you've got to admit that she made 2010 just a bit more bearable, even if it was with her willingness to push the boundaries of absurdity. Well, her songs were pretty great, too. And she did it entirely her way.
"I think Ke$ha's definitely gone way past her 15 minutes of fame, [but] the appeal with her is that there's an honesty," Noah Callahan-Bever, editor in chief of Complex magazine, said. "In a market of totally prefab pop stuff, there's almost a sloppiness to her whole persona, and I think that realness appeals to people. I think it doesn't hurt that she works with the best producer in pop music, either," he said, referring to right-hand man Dr. Luke.
In 2010, thanks to that winning combination of pitch-perfect pop and pure, unfiltered weirdness, Ke$ha pretty much conquered the world. She won over fans and earned begrudging respect from the critics. And she wore dead animals on her head. Wherever she goes in 2011, I'll follow. And I'll likely be just as perplexed as the rest of you.
Do you expect Ke$ha's party to stop or keep rocking in 2011? Let us know in the comments.

Justin Bieber Named MVP Of 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

'We're just here having a good time,' Bieber says after winning the coveted title.By James Dinh

As his quest for world domination continues, Justin Bieber took to the basketball court on Friday evening to co-headline the 2011 BBVA NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in Los Angeles. And even though his team lost, the teen sensation won the coveted title of MVP at the end of the star-studded game.

Bieber did his best to play alongside fellow celebrity participants including Romeo, Common, Rob Kardashian, Trey Songz, actor Michael Rapaport and Nick Cannon. Basketball stars Scottie Pippen, Bill Walton, Rick Fox, Jalen Rose, Mitch Richmond, Chris Mullin and Swin Cash rounded out the game players. While NBA luminary Bill Walton coached the Eastern Conference, Magic Johnson served as instructor for the Western Conference.
With the star talent covering the court, the East and West teams delivered steady competition against one another. But once the third quarter kicked in, the East Conference began dominating the scoreboard with a 41-33 lead. Bieber proved his basketball skills to his West team with a stat line that included eight points, two rebounds and four assists. But in the end, the Eastern Conference took the game by storm with a final score of 54-49 (Western).
Despite his team's loss, the Biebster won over the play-by-play sports commentators, who praised the teen star when he scored. "Justin Bieber! He could be thinking about that MVP award. He has game," one announcer said.
And as predicted, the celebrity all-star showdown ended with ESPN's Heather Cox awarding the Most Valuable Player trophy to the teen sensation. "We're just here. We're having a good time. We went out there and beat them," Bieber joked. "It was all because of my boy Magic over here."
Earlier in the game, Bieber rounded up his legion of Twitter followers to vote for him as Most Valuable Player during the star-studded game, tweeting, "Everyone text 'bieber' to 69622 for me to be MVP in the all-star celeb game. I'm going in!!! Haha."
Not only were his Beliebers able to snatch the title for the pop star, they also showed their support for the 16-year-old singer by creating yet another trending topic on Twitter called "BIEBER ALERT."

Lil Wayne's '6'7" ' Originally For T.I., Bangladesh Says

Producer says he sent beat to Tip's camp first but was eventually convinced to hand over the track for Weezy.By Mawuse Ziegbe

T.I.

Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images

From chart-topping records to serving time behind bars, Lil Wayne and T.I. have a lot in common. In fact, they were both set to lavish lyrics on what eventually became Weezy's latest joint, "6'7"."
Producer Bangladesh, who supplied the rumbling, insistent beat for Weezy's beastly 2008 banger "A Milli," recently revealed that Wayne's lead lyrical K.O. from Tha Carter IV was originally sent to Tip's camp.

"Due to the situation and the circumstances of the Cash Money situation, I really wasn't thinking about Wayne at that moment when I made it," he told BET.com about sidestepping Weezy's label due to static that cropped up when Bangladesh claimed Cash Money owed him some, well, cash money. "I just knew that the beat was a big track and I couldn't at the time think of nobody that could swag this out like that or was worthy enough of this beat really.
"I was actually sending the beat to Gee [Roberson, Atlantic Records executive] for T.I.," he added. "I mean, not that I think T.I. would sound good on the beat, they were just looking for a single and somebody said, 'Man, send that to Gee; T.I. need something.' "
Even though the producer sent over the track, he knew that Tip wasn't likely to latch on to the record. Instead, Roberson, who co-manages Weezy, insisted the beat was Carter IV material.
"I already dealt with T.I., I know how T.I. is. I knew he wouldn't really be rocking this beat right there, so I sent it anyway," he added. "And Gee just hit back talking about Wayne: 'Man, Wayne'll kill this, Wayne'll kill this,' so I had to really see if I wanted to do it or not, but they've been communicating, they've been reaching out."
Bangladesh told MTV News on Wednesday that when the beat finally reached Wayne, he attacked it with the same fervor he did the steely Carter III smash, but this time he focused that raw, freewheeling energy to turn out more slickly delivered bars.
"The overall wittiness is everything I was saying about 'A Milli' when it came to be," the producer explained. "He freestyled 'A Milli,' and before it was big and before we knew what it was gonna do, we all had our opinions of it. A lot of people loved it, but me being the creator of the art, I didn't see the vision that he had. I think he attacked it as a mixtape. And that was the genius of what he did and it became the biggest thing. The way he approached this one, was everything that I wanted him to do on 'A Milli.' I think he's really focusing on every, every line. It's like he's writing. It's different. It's a whole 'nother level of cleverness to it."
Was Wayne the better choice for Bangladesh's "6'7" " beat? Tell us why in the comments!

Eminem, Taylor Swift Top Album Sales For 2010

Recovery led the year's new releases; Katy Perry was queen of song downloads.By Gil Kaufman

Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage

Despite late charges from Susan Boyle and Taylor Swift, Eminem came out on top in the year-end Nielsen SoundScan album-sales tally. According to figures compiled by Billboard magazine, the rapper's return-to-form CD, Recovery, led all new releases in 2010 with sales of 3.4 million copies, followed by Lady Antebellum's Need You Now (3.1 million), Swift's Speak Now (3 million), Justin Bieber's My World 2.0 (2.3 million) and Boyle's The Gift (1.85 million).
The rest of the top-selling albums included Lady Gaga's still-moving debut, The Fame, which sold another 1.5 million copies last year, followed by Sade's Soldier of Love (1.3 million), Drake's Thank Me Later (1.2 million), Usher's Raymond v. Raymond (1.18 million) and Ke$ha's Animal (1.1 million).
Recovery was also the #1 digital album, thanks to sales of 852,000 copies.
A combination of her still briskly selling back catalog and her new hit album made Swift the year's overall top-selling artist, with more than 4.4 million units shifted, followed by Slim Shady (4.3 million), Lady Antebellum (3.8 million), Bieber (3.7 million) and the cast of "Glee" (3.6 million).
Katy Perry was the queen of the digital-songs tally, racking up nearly 4.4 million downloads for her hit collabo with Snoop Dogg, "California Gurls." Just behind was Train's "Hey, Soul Sister" (4.3 million), Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie" (4.2 million), Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" (4 million) and B.o.B and Hayley Williams' "Airplanes" (4 million).
Albums sales continued their nearly decade-long slide, dropping another 12.8 percent to 326.2 million units as sales of CDs fell by almost 20 percent for the fourth year in a row. But individual digital track sales saw a slight 1 percent increase last year to 1.17 billion, and digital album sales grew by 13 percent to 86.3 million, meaning they accounted for more than 26 percent of all U.S. album sales in 2010.
And, in one of those stories it feels like you hear every year, vinyl was big in 2010 as well, with the vintage category growing by 13 percent. That uptick was fueled largely by the Beatles' Abbey Road, which sold 35,000 copies, followed by the Arcade Fire's Suburbs (18,000), the Black Keys' Brothers (18,000), Vampire Weekend's Contra (15,000) and Michael Jackson's Thriller (14,000).

Miley Cyrus Talks Bong Controversy, Future Plans

'I'm not perfect ... I made a mistake,' she tells Marie Claire magazine in a new cover story.By Jocelyn Vena

2011 has seen Miley Cyrus beginning to make the transition from Disney's reigning queen to Hollywood heavyweight, as she officially said goodbye to her small-screen persona, Hannah Montana, and is now gearing up for the release of several high-profile movies. The change hasn't been without growing pains, as the starlet recently has been the focus of a number of controversies, not the least of which was the now-infamous video that showed her smoking a bong with the herb salvia in it.
In the new issue of Marie Claire, the magazine's cover girl admits that maybe she hasn't been a flawless example to her young fans, but she's trying her best.
"I'm not perfect ... I made a mistake ... I'm disappointed in myself for disappointing my fans," Cyrus said of last year's bong incident. When the interviewer reminded her that her behavior was something many kids her age do, she explained, "But they're not Miley Cyrus. They're not role models. So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for."
Cyrus also addressed some rumors regarding a photo that hit the Internet last November that showed her getting seemingly very cozy with Nickelodeon star Avan Jogia. Her explanation: "If you look at the picture, I'm turned away, and he's kissing me on the cheek. It's very hilarious to me that people say, 'They're making out.' In making out, there's a tongue."
In addition to shaking up her Disney image, Cyrus also had to deal with the announced separation of her parents, but the teen superstar says she has no doubts that her clan will persevere. "Of course anyone is going to be upset when there are troubles in their family, but I have a lot of hope in our family, and no matter what happens, we're gonna stay strong," she said.
As for her plans for the year to come, Cyrus says she wants to "spread love and change the world in 2011."

Kanye West, Black Keys, Wiz Khalifa Lead 2011 Woodie Award Nominees

College network mtvU also gives nods to B.o.B and Mumford & Sons.By James Montgomery

By now, Kanye West has taken home just about every award possible, or at least stormed the stage at every awards show imaginable if he hasn't. But he's never won a Woodie, the hunk of lumber handed out annually by MTV's 24-hour college network mtvU — though March 16, that might finally change.

Because West — along with the likes of the Black Keys, Wiz Khalifa, B.o.B and Mumford & Sons — has just been announced as a nominee for the 2011 Woodie Awards, which will air live from Austin, Texas, during the South by Southwest Music Festival.
West is nominated for the "Left Field Woodie," handed out to the year's "most original artist." He'll face off against Die Antwoord, Lil B, Yelawolf and Das Racist for the hardware.
And West isn't the only big name up for some wood. The Black Keys lead the pack with a pair of nominations: They'll face off against B.o.B, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem and Wiz Khalifa for "Woodie of the Year" (given to the year's best artist), and their "Tighten Up" clip is up for "Best Video Woodie," competing against Vampire Weekend's "Giving Up the Gun," Duck Sauce's "Barbra Streisand," Gorillaz's "Stylo" and Chiddy Bang's "Opposite of Adults."
"We are excited to be nominated for the 'Woodie Awards' and are super stoked that MTV has been so supportive of our videos," Black Keys drummer Patrick said.
In other categories, the National, Girl Talk, Matt & Kim, Robyn and Mumford & Sons square off for the "Performing Woodie," honoring the year's best tour, and up-and-comers Local Natives, Sleigh Bells, Dev, Wavves and Two Door Cinema Club go head-to-head for the "Breaking Woodie," for the year's top emerging artist.
"We couldn't ask for a better category to be nominated in," Matt & Kim said about their nod. "Playing live is what this band is built on. And the nomination isn't just for us. It proves our audience is the best, funnest and wildest party animals out there."
As in previous years, all the winners will be determined by you.
Voting in all categories for the 7th annual Woodie Awards opens Tuesday (February 1) at Woodies.MTV.com,
and runs through March 1. Voting for the "Breaking Woodie" award will continue all the way up until the show.
Previous Woodie winners include the Killers, Death Cab for Cutie, Gym Class Heroes and Paramore. Performers and presenters for this year's show will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards will air live March 16 at midnight ET/PT on MTV, mtvU and MTV2.

Grammy 2011 Snubs Include Adam Lambert, Ke$ha, Big Boi, Rihanna

While Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber were both nominated, they didn't get as much love as some expected.By Gil Kaufman

You hear it all the time: "I'm just thankful to be nominated." It's the gracious and polite thing to say, and artists who lose out on major awards always feel compelled to offer it up.
But what if you never even get nominated?
Every year, there are head-slapping omissions from the roster of nominees at the big awards-fests (Christopher Nolan at the Oscars, anyone?), and this year's 53rd annual Grammy Awards (which take place February 13) are no exception.
In the night's biggest category, Album of the Year, there was plenty of griping from critics about the inclusion of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream, which many considered too lightweight for the night's top prize. But there was also a bit of talk about Justin Bieber's smash My World 2.0 not making it into the mix in the major categories, even if Bieber can lick his wounds with his Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album love.
Though the rules about the Best New Artist category have since been changed to avoid such a problem in the future, Lady Gaga has been the victim of Grammy snubs before. She earned six nominations this year, including coveted Album of the Year for The Fame Monster, but it was mystifying that her huge hit, "Bad Romance," didn't get any Record or Song of the Year nominations.
What gives?
"They want her for ratings, but I think the Grammys are still a bit freaked out by Gaga," said Entertainment Weekly music writer Leah Greenblatt. "There were so many shenanigans about her not being nominated for Best New Artist that I think the Grammys got shamed over that. It's possible they would try to make it up to her by showering her with nominations and I could see her win in major categories [in the future], but I think they're not quite ready for her." That could, of course, change next year when Gaga's Born This Way is in the running.
Another diva used to serious Grammy love, Alicia Keys, was totally shut out for her The Element of Freedom album. "It's interesting that Alicia Keys got nothing," she said. "Her and John Mayer are practically on the ballots every year whether they qualify for eligibility or not. And I think 'Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart' was one of the year's best singles." And reclusive Grammy bait Sade got a pair of notices for her singles "Soldier of Love" and "Babyfather" in the R&B categories but no chance at any of the big prizes. Greenblatt said she was surprised by both snubs, especially since Sade's Soldier of Love album was one of the top sellers of 2010 and because the enigmatic singer had been away for nearly a decade and came back in fine, mature form, the kind of story the Grammys love to honor.
There were some eyebrows raised over the single nomination for "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert, who had a solid and creatively rich hit album with his debut, For Your Entertainment, but just a single nod for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Whataya Want From Me."
With Perry strutting into a number of top categories thanks to her light-as-air pop confections, it was a wonder that another pop tart with huge digital sales and big chart hits (things the Recording Academy likes to see), Ke$ha, was completely shut out of the game. Greenblatt thought the Lambert dis might fall into the same Gaga territory, with the Academy being a bit freaked out by the singer's out-and-proud persona and over-the-top antics, but when it comes to Ke$ha, she said it's probably a different story. "She had a huge impact, but I think the Grammys think she might go away, and they've chosen not to legitimize her," she speculated.
Speaking of big sales, quite a few people commented on the fact that Train's smash "Hey, Soul Sister," the best-selling single of 2010, got just one notice for a little-heard live version in the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group category.
A couple of well-respected hip-hop acts were also conspicuously absent from the nominations list, including Outkast's Big Boi, whose acclaimed Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was left out of the Best Rap Album category, along with Rick Ross, whose Teflon Don got no love. "Rick Ross is the kind of artist made to be ignored by the Grammys," Greenblatt said. "He has a sensibility the Grammys will almost never come around to, no matter how beloved he is by rap fans."
But given that she thought Chico Dusty was one of the best albums of 2010, Greenblatt was stunned by the freeze-out of Big Boi, who has been showered with Grammy love in the past. "It's such an achievement, a fully realized album that feels like a real tapestry, a headphones album from someone whose skills are so singular ... [from] one of the most iconic and Grammy-approved hip-hop acts of all time."
Rihanna's Rated R was also eligible but got stiffed in the major categories, landing just a Best Dance Recording nod for "Only Girl (In the World)" for her single from last year's Loud and a number of notices for her work on Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie." And if you thought Kanye West got ripped off when My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got blanked, don't worry: It wasn't eligible this year but is in the hunt for next year.
The one omission that seemed to make sense was the two small nominations for the kids from "Glee," who are up for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for their cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' " and for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Glee: Vol. 1. Though they set cash registers ringing like crazy, it's no wonder that actors singing covers didn't garner attention at a show that ostensibly awards creativity. And no one seemed too shocked that Christina Aguilera's poorly received Bionic was ignored.
Who do you think got stiffed by the Grammys? Share your top snubs in the comments.
