Though she hasn't said who the song is about, Swift did admit to being 'careless' in the relationship.By Jocelyn Vena

Long before Taylor Swift released the video for "Back to December," everyone was clamoring for clues about who she was singing to in the breakup ballad. And still, the dark-haired character in the video could represent any one of her recent exes. Swift has always made it clear that though she sings about her life, she never names names, but she did talk to MTV News about writing an apology song, which she explained was a first for her.
"I've never felt the need to apologize in a song before, but in the last two years I've experienced a lot, [including] a lot of different kinds of learning lessons," Taylor told us last year, just before the release of Speak Now. "And sometimes you learn a lesson too late and at that point you need to apologize because you were careless."
In the chorus, she sings, "So this is me swallowing my pride/ Standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night And I'd go back to December all the time/ It turns out freedom ain't nothing but missing you/ Wishing that I'd realized what I had when you were mine."
Many have guessed that the tune is about her breakup with "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner. Whoever it is, Swift felt her former paramour deserved a musical mea culpa.
"Well, I've always sort of written songs about situations in life, things that needed to be said," she told E! back in October. "I write songs about people who deserve to have songs written about them, and whatever they need to hear, whatever is the right thing to say to that person, ends up being said."
While Swift may have been careless toward the guy she's writing about on the song, she's admitted he was nothing but a gentleman. "This is about a person who was incredible to me, just perfect to me in a relationship," she said. "And I was really careless with him."

Overtis launches browser plugin for Web app control
A 3-year-old startup called Overtis launched a browser plug-in on Tuesday aimed at letting companies control what data employees can access through Web applications like Salesforce.com and Google Apps. The plugin, called the VigilancePro WAM (Web Application Manager), allows administrators to blank out certain tabs, hyperlinks, and buttons within a Web application. For example, an administrator could block access to Salesforce.com's contacts as well as the ability to print or use copy-and-paste depending on where the employee logs in, said Overtis CEO Ed Macnair.tina wallman Fashion disasters

Selena Gomez Says Justin Bieber 'Understands' Her
'He's been in my life for so long,' Gomez said on 'Late Show With David Letterman.'By Jocelyn Vena
Selena Gomez on the "Late Show With David Letterman" Wednesday night
Photo: CBS
When Selena Gomez stopped by "Late Show" to chat about her latest single, "Who Says," David Letterman couldn't resist bringing up Justin Bieber's name. And while she wasn't too forthcoming with details, she did give some insight into why she cares so much for her boyfriend.
"Oh, that's cute," she said when showed a picture of the teens at the Vanity Fair Oscar party last month. "It was like a little prom night, wasn't it? Looked like it."
Letterman then wondered how long she and Bieber have known one another. She said, "Almost, like, two years now." Letterman pressed further, asking how they met. "Actually, his manager called my mom, who's my manager," she explained, before Letterman joked, "I heard he was your paperboy."
"I'm blushing!" she said.
"Are you dating or not dating?" Letterman asked again, and Selena danced around the answer. "He's been in my life for so long, and it's just nice to have someone that understands what you're going through."
"This is not my first rodeo, you can talk to me about these things," Letterman quipped as she laughed. Then he promised not to go any further in his Bieber-related questioning.
Both stars have been as quiet as possible about the true nature of their relationship, though they have been spotted out on dates together. Earlier this month, Gomez was by Bieber's side as he celebrated his 17th birthday. And while on tour abroad, Bieber tweeted a message to her, noting how much he missed her.

Miley Cyrus To Host 'Saturday Night Live' On March 5
The teen star's appearance will be her first time hosting the long-running sketch-comedy show.By Aly Semigran
Miley Cyrus
Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images
If you're a Miley Cyrus fan, here's some news that's "like, prit-tay cool!"
The 18-year-old singer/actress is slated to host "Saturday Night Live" for the first time on March 5, People.com has confirmed. Unlike some previous genre-spanning celebs who have hosted the sketch-comedy show such as Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez, though, Cyrus won't pull double duty as the evening's musical guest. There's no word yet on who will provide the musical entertainment on the episode.
The teenage phenom has been something of a fixture on "SNL" over the past season, with new castmember Vanessa Bayer's dead-on impersonation of the "Hannah Montana" star in the sketch "The Miley Cyrus Show" seen semi-regularly on the late-night program.
In it, Bayer — joined by Jason Sudeikis as her overly eager dad, Billy Ray Cyrus — portrays Miley as she interviews other celebrities while often interjecting her own stories and expressing that everything is, well, "pretty cool."
Cyrus — who has two upcoming comedy films, "So Undercover" and "LOL," in the works — has also been the butt of some jokes because of her now-infamous bong/salvia-smoking moment, which was all caught on tape and posted online in December 2010.
The teen sensation has since addressed the incident, admitting in a recent Marie Claire cover story, "For me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for."
In addition to the "SNL" hosting gig in three weeks, Cyrus will appear at Sunday night's Grammy Awards as a presenter.

Stewardship, not ownership: It's time for IT to give up on control
"Improvisation is too good to leave to chance," said singer Paul Simon. It's a lesson that IT needs to learn and, more important, act on. We're surrounded. Here in the land of information technology, we're inundated by threats and not just from the bad guys, although there are plenty of those to worry about. Never mind them -- protecting the enterprise from its own workers is a much bigger challenge for IT because of employee desires:amber rose

Amy Adams: From 'June Bug' To Lois Lane
We take a look at the eclectic list of roles the Oscar-nominated actress, and new Superman love interest, has played.By Eric Ditzian

Henry Cavill might have been getting a little lonely in Metropolis. Two months after landing the role of Superman in Zack Snyder's reboot of the superhero franchise, the 27-year-old actor still hadn't found out who'd become his Lois Lane.
The answer arrived on Sunday: Amy Adams will be play the Daily Planet reporter and Superman love interest. In a statement, Snyder called Adams "one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today." That's hardly an overstatement: The 36-year-old star has performed in indies and blockbusters, musicals and animated fare, solemn dramas and bawdy comedies. Along the way she's managed to earn three Oscar nominations, the latest for her supporting turn last year in "The Fighter."
A former Hooters waitress, Adams made her debut in 1999's "Drop Dead Gorgeous" as a dim and cheerful beauty-pageant contestant. Supporting roles on the big and small screen followed, but her next step up the Hollywood food chain didn't arrive until Steven Spielberg cast her as Leonardo DiCaprio's love interest in 2002's "Catch Me If You Can." While things were undoubtedly going well for the actress, she then took a step back from the spotlight over the next few years and only fully resurfaced in very unlikely fashion.
"June Bug," a sort of "Meet the Parents" for the art-house crowd that starred Adams as a wide-eyed gal named Ashley who's days away from giving birth and seemingly miles away from planet earth, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2005. The performance won her a special jury prize for acting — and a year later she earned her first Oscar nod for the part. The decision to avoid mainstream fare turned out to be just what Adams' career needed.
"If you love the project, you love the project, and you could be making millions of dollars and have millions of dollars to spend or no money to spend and making no money," Adams told us at the time. "But it's about the script and it's about the people and it's about the story."
From there she began mixing studio pictures ("Talladega Nights") with indie roles ("Sunshine Cleaning"), and ended up wowing critics and audiences in "Enchanted," a film that managed to breathe new life into movie musicals while at the same time paying deep respect to the genre. There was also a short but satisfying arc on "The Office" as Jim Halpert's (John Krasinski) handbag-slinging girlfriend. By the start of 2009, Adams would earn her second Oscar nod — this one for playing a 1960s-era nun in "Doubt" — and yet she couldn't quite get used to the idea that she was indeed a movie star.
"You see yourself onscreen, or you see pictures of yourself, and it can get really heady. I don't think human beings are supposed to look at themselves that much," she said in a 2009 Allure interview, adding that she used to think of herself as "homely" and "painfully small, short, with too much blue eye shadow because I thought, 'It matches my eyes, so why not?' "
Perhaps by now, following her third Oscar honor, she's more comfortable with the notion of celebrity. Hopefully. Because her star is about to rise to a whole new level. There's her turn as Jason Segel's girlfriend in "The Muppets," set to premiere later this year, and she wrapped production last year on "On the Road" opposite Kristen Stewart. In addition, she's attached to play Janis Joplin in a big-screen biopic. But none of that will compare to the exposure the new "Superman" movie will bring her when it premieres in December 2012. Snyder, for one, couldn't be happier with the choice.
"Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois," he said. "[S]mart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."

Japanese Earthquake, Tsunami On The Minds Of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, More

The world is still reacting to the news of an 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on Friday (March 11). The devastating quake triggered a 10-meter tsunami that now threatens Pacific coastal areas including Hawaii and the West Coast of the United States. Celebrities have taken to Twitter to share their love and support for those affected by the natural disaster.
"I'm sending my thoughts and prayers and love to those in Japan who are hurting," Taylor Swift tweeted. Fellow pop princess Katy Perry shared a similar sentiment, writing, "My prayers go out to anyone that is being effected by the disaster in Japan. #prayforjapan."
Selena Gomez, who was just in the country, took to Facebook to express her concern. "Wow, I don't even know what to say, Japan. I was just there and you were all so wonderful to me," she wrote. "I am sending all my love, prayers and support."
Justin Bieber also tweeted about the news. "Japan is one of my favorite places on earth. ... It's an incredible culture with amazing people. My prayers go out to them. We all need to help." He added, "#prayforjapan."
"Our hearts and prayers are with all of our BSB family in Japan. We love you all so much. Please try to stay safe. ... Kisses and hugs from us!" the Backstreet Boys tweeted, with their tourmates New Kids on the Block adding, "Our thoughts are with all those around the world affected by the earthquake in Japan."
"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest wrote on Twitter, "Glued to TV watching this unreal earthquake footage out of Japan. Sending prayers to everyone affected. Unbelievable."
As the weather threatens his home state of Hawaii, the president tweeted a strong message of support. "Sending condolences to the people of Japan, particularly those who lost loved ones in the earthquake & tsunamis. U.S. stands ready to help."
"Glee" stars Lea Michele and Amber Riley also had kind words for those affected. Michele tweeted, "So devastating to hear about the huge earthquake & tsunami [in] Japan. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone there." Riley added, "Omg my heart goes out to Japan. I pray this devastation stops."
Embattled actress Lindsay Lohan even seemed overwhelmed by the news, writing, "My mommy just woke my sister and i up to this! god bless those that are in fear."
"The images on the news are breaking my heart," Paris Hilton wrote online. "I am so worried for everyone in Japan. My thoughts are with you Japan. God bless you all."

Ke$ha Rises From Oddball To Icon In 2010
This year, nobody defied description quite like Ke$ha, the pop oddity who shows no signs of slowing down.By James Montgomery
Ke$ha
Photo: Venturelli/ Getty Images
In January, when "Tik Tok" was just starting to hit, I described Ke$ha as "a 22-year-old pop confectionary/cautionary tale." By November, when "We R Who We R" debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, I had crowned her an "outcast icon." The truth probably lies somewhere in between those two statements, but if there's a better way to sum up the pop star's rather incredible rise to fame, I am unaware of it.
Because in 2010, there really was no one else who came close to matching Ke$ha, whether in terms of sheer chart dominance ("Tik Tok," enjoyed the year's longest run at #1, spending nine weeks atop the Hot 100), or pure WTF-ery. She began the year as a belching, squelching, booze-swilling party monster and ended it as perhaps the most unlikely of role models — an unrepentant oddball who not only dared to speak her mind, but defy conventions, too. And through it all, she remained largely unclassifiable, shifting between genres (pop, hip-hop, rock) and personas (dumpster-diving diva, Topanga Canyon bohemian, DayGlo star child) with each successive hit. And because of that, Ke$ha became one of the year's most interesting characters, the kind of pop oddity that leaves critics alternately grasping at adjectives and scratching their heads.
"I think 'What is Ke$ha?' is definitely the question, more than 'Who is Ke$ha?' because the 'What?' is really the thing," New York Times writer Jon Caramanica told MTV News. "When she first came into the game, she was this pop singer with a little bit of a country background, but [doing] this sort of whiny, white-girl rap ... but, if anything, 'Tik Tok' proved there's an entire audience of people who are pop fans, but who have a really high tolerance for rap music. Maybe they're not going to buy a Kanye West record, but they're not unafraid of hip-hop. And with Ke$ha, and her loose, 'I don't give a f---' approach to making these songs resonates with the loose, 'I don't give a f---' approach of the fans in listening to the songs. They hear something of themselves in her."
Of course, Ke$ha suffered for her, uh, art, becoming one of the year's most popular punching bags — particularly following a pair of bizarre performances on "Saturday Night Live" — but as the year draws to a close, her grip on the pop world seems to be permanent. Not only is she the unlikeliest of stars, she's also one of the most persistent ... and love her or hate her, you've got to admit that she made 2010 just a bit more bearable, even if it was with her willingness to push the boundaries of absurdity. Well, her songs were pretty great, too. And she did it entirely her way.
"I think Ke$ha's definitely gone way past her 15 minutes of fame, [but] the appeal with her is that there's an honesty," Noah Callahan-Bever, editor in chief of Complex magazine, said. "In a market of totally prefab pop stuff, there's almost a sloppiness to her whole persona, and I think that realness appeals to people. I think it doesn't hurt that she works with the best producer in pop music, either," he said, referring to right-hand man Dr. Luke.
In 2010, thanks to that winning combination of pitch-perfect pop and pure, unfiltered weirdness, Ke$ha pretty much conquered the world. She won over fans and earned begrudging respect from the critics. And she wore dead animals on her head. Wherever she goes in 2011, I'll follow. And I'll likely be just as perplexed as the rest of you.

B.o.B Plays The Hits, Wiz Khalifa Pays Tribute To Nate Dogg At SXSW
Janelle Monae also wowed audience on Thursday at Atlantic Records' showcase in Austin, Texas.By James Montgomery

AUSTIN, Texas -- If you decide to call your South by Southwest showcase "Killers Lasers Papers," and then find out, much to your dismay, that neither the Killer (Cee Lo Green, whose 2010 album is called The Lady Killer) or the Laser (Lupe Fiasco, whose Lasers currently sits atop the Billboard albums chart) are actually going to show up, what do you do?
Well, if you're Atlantic Records, you simply plug in another of your chart-topping stars, add your critically acclaimed futurist-funk chanteuse and keep right on trucking. Things are that easy for the label these days.
So, on Thursday night at Austin's La Zona Rosa, instead of Green and Fiasco, SXSW-ers were treated to semi-surprise sets from B.o.B and Janelle Monáe -- both of whom filled in admirably -- plus Wiz Khalifa (who, with an upcoming album titled Rolling Papers, made up the "Papers" portion of the evening and, unlike Green and Fiasco, actually showed up), and no one was the wiser. Like we said, when you preside over a hip-hop roster as stacked as Atlantic's, you can afford to change things up on the fly.
Taking the stage after performances by up-and-comers XV and Donnis, B.o.B bounced his way through a tight 30-minute set, one that drew predominantly from his #1 debut, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, but also included a few nods to both his past as an underappreciated Atlanta MC (back when he was trying to get a tip at Subway) and a mixtape staple.
So while he weaved through Adventures cuts like "Bet I" (featuring an onstage assist from Playboy Tre), "Magic," "Nothin' on You" and, of course, "Airplanes" (all of which featured pre-recorded bits from their various big-name co-stars), B.o.B truly came to life when he was tackling tracks that were either not his or from his not-so-distant past. In fact, he couldn't wait to get to them, even going so far as to cut "Nothin' on You" short to declare, "I feel like y'all hear that sh-- on the radio all the time," before taking requests from the audience.
He then dove headlong into Tre's "Talking 'Bout Her," spitting over a gnarled electro whomp and, backed by his live band, tore though "Batman Flow" and "Beast Mode" (from his No Genre mixtape) plus "Haterz Everywhere," an early street single from 2007. And rather than be mystified, the crowd ate up every second of it . a point of validation not just for B.o.B's past successes, but for his future promise, too.
And speaking of future promise, Wiz Khalifa followed with a loose and laconic set that featured plenty of nods to his upcoming Rolling Papers album (due March 29), not to mention a swagger that belies his years.
Loping across the stage with a red Solo cup his hands, and backed by his Taylor Gang posse, Khalifa may have made the occasional reference to pot smoking -- at one point asking, "Where my ladies at? Y'all know how to roll a joint?" -- but his performance was anything but stony baloney. Instead, whether he was working through songs from his Cabin Fever and Kush & Orange Juice mixtapes ("Phone Numbers," "Gang Bang," "Waken Baken") or pimping Papers'
release with new tracks, Wiz displayed not only a deft lyrical dexterity but some genuine grind, too.
He snarled through "Taylor Gang" and "On My Level," dropped phrases like "Time is money so I went and bought a Rolex" and "We wake up drunk, go to sleep f---ed up," and made the crowd go bananas with his hit "Black and Yellow." But really, perhaps his most lucid moment came toward the end of his set, when he stopped the music and spoke openly about the late Nate Dogg, calling the G-Funk legend "one of my biggest heroes" and running through an impromptu tribute performance that featured he and the Taylor Gang singing some of Dogg's most memorable verses, including (fittingly enough) his off-the-cuff "Hey hey hey hey/ Smoke weed every day," from Dr. Dre's "The Next Episode."
"Rest in peace, Nate Dogg," Wiz then announced.
Closing out the night -- also in tribute to the red-hot soul-and-funk sessions of luminaries like James Brown and Isaac Hayes -- was Janelle Monáe, the pint-sized, pompadoured powerhouse who wowed critics with her 2010 effort, The ArchAndroid. And while she may not have been the logical choice to wrap things up, she didn't let that stop her for a second.
Over her air-tight set -- which covered most of her latest album -- she strutted and preened, posed and popped, backed by a vamping, high-stepping show band and a whole lot of artful costuming. There wasn't a moment that wasn't filled with oddball dancing druids or wildly bearded Hassidim, and whether Monáe was leading her full ensemble through standouts like "Dance or Die" or "Wondaland," performing a jaw-dropping version of the standard "Smile" or ceding the stage to her guitarist for a deep-fried psych version of the national anthem, the singer put on an awe-inspiring show, the kind where the folks in the audience are reduced to simple shaking their heads in disbelief. Not bad for a last-minute fill-in.

T.I. Says Pharrell Asked Him To Vent On 'Get Back Up'
'I just need you to get those same sentiments, those same feelings on a record,' Tip recalls the producer telling him.By Hillary Crosley

Photo: MTV News
It's no secret that T.I. is experiencing a difficult time in his career. The Atlanta rapper was on the cusp of releasing his comeback album, then titled King Uncaged, following a one-year prison stint when he was arrested once again. Tip was sentenced to 11 months for violating his parole and shipped back to the same Arkansas facility he'd just left.
But through it all, the MC found inspiration for the track "Get Back Up" from his now-titled No Mercy album.
"Yeah, 'Get Back Up,' produced by Pharrell of the Neptunes, one of the most passionate, genuine, artistic guys that I've met in the game and has had a hand in my movement since my very first album," T.I. said. "He was one of the first big producers to work with me."
Tip said the pair reconnected and were recording for his then-forthcoming seventh LP when disaster struck.
"Prior to my arrest, we had done about three or four songs, considerably hot records, some of which you'll definitely be hearing on this project," T.I. said during our exclusive "RapFix Live" interview. "But ... I left out the studio, and the next day, I go to jail, or I get arrested, which took me in a whole 'nother, different direction.
"When all of these things started coming to pass, Pharrell called me like, 'Hey, man, somebody somewhere is trying to tell you something,' and I'm like, 'Yeah, you know, that may be,' " the MC continued. "Then we had a conversation at length about how I felt about the media's portrayal of my circumstances. And he said, 'You know what? That's what you need to say in a song.' And I say, 'Man, I ain't talking about no music right now, P.' And he say, 'But that's what they wanna hear, that's what you need to tell 'em. Just ride with me on this. I'mma get it to you, and I just need you to get those same sentiments, those same feelings on a record.' I said, 'All right, man, give it to me.' "
It didn't take the talented producer long to craft a beat perfect for Tip's emotions.
"So it might've been a week or two later, he called me and it might've been at 4 o'clock in the morning, like, 'I got it!' " T.I. recalled. "I immediately heard the potential, I immediately heard that this was a special record, a personal record, a statement record ... and one that could be delivered with humility and not as defensive as it may sound in conversation if I said it."

David Guetta Teases Nicki Minaj's 'New Persona' On 'Where Dem Girls At?'

MIAMI — America dances to a clubbier tune nowadays, due in large part to the diligence of four kings of current U.S. pop/urban radio: Dr. Luke, Max Martin, RedOne and David Guetta.
And MTV News has a news flash about one of those kings: Grammy-winning French producer David Guetta has almost completed a new album and has a new single hitting the airwaves most likely in the beginning of May. The yet-untitled follow-up to One Love is a disc made with both pop radio and big arenas in mind.
Akon and will.i.am are featured on the upcoming project, as are a few new partners in crime. Currently, Guetta has a dilemma, MTV News learned when we caught up with him Friday (March 25) as the DJ/producer performed during Miami Music Week. The Frenchman is going back and forth between two big bangers for a first single, a high-class problem most in the music world would welcome.
"I have two really, really big ones," Guetta told MTVN News. "One is with Taio Cruz and Ludacris [a song called 'Little Bad Girl' that has already leaked] and the other ['Where Dem Girls At?'] is with Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj. They are both huge records, but one sounds more European. The other one sounds a bit more U.S."
Guetta joked, "So people are fighting inside the record company: It's the U.S. against Europe. So we are gonna see who has more muscle!"
Minaj's millions of Barbz around the world would surely cast their vote for "Where Dem Girls At?" and Guetta is particularly pleased that he could bring her onboard for the song.
"We just had a big success with 'Club Can't Handle Me' together with Flo Rida, and he gave me back the favor by featuring on my album," Guetta said. "That record is absolutely huge. Like it was a monster already. And then, I wanted to add a little twist, because we just had a record together, and I'm a huge Nicki Minaj fan.
"And we met. I was gonna play records, but she said, 'You know, you should know that I wanna do a solo record. I don't want to be with somebody else,' " Guetta continued. "So I said, 'OK, no problem. Can I just play you that record?' And that record is so big that it's undeniable. And she was like, 'OK, I'll do that last one.' And it's a major record!"
But which Nicki Minaj will appear on "Where Dem Girls At?" Will it be Roman, Martha or one of her other now-famous personas? According to Guetta, maybe someone new.
"I think she kind of has a new persona for that record," Guetta shared. " She's more London now."
Which single do you think David Guetta should roll with first? Let us know in the comments!

Wiz Khalifa Wins Big, Odd Future Go Wild At 2011 mtvU Woodies
Two Door Cinema Club and Chiddy Bang also take home big prizes, alongside performances by Sleigh Bells and Foo Fighters.By Kyle Anderson

Luminaries from all corners of the indie-rock world descended on Austin, Texas, on Wednesday night (March 16) not only to kick off the annual South by Southwest festival, but also to celebrate the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards. And though Wiz Khalifa and Two Door Cinema Club walked away with the biggest prizes of the evening, the night -- and perhaps the remainder of the year -- belonged to Odd Future.
Foo Fighters got the festivities started on a loud note with a rugged run through their new single "Rope." While the multiplatinum Foos aren't technically indie, they certainly practice a lo-fi aesthetic (their entire new album, Wasting Light, was recorded on analog tape), and with their new three-guitar attack, they have become the modern-rock radio version of Neil Young and Crazy Horse (except with shorter solos and better haircuts).
Once Dave Grohl and company wrapped up a headbang-worthy extended breakdown at the end of "Rope," host Donald Glover (he of "Community" fame) took the stage to formally welcome the live audience and viewers at home to the show. "There's something I wanted to say: Stop asking your black friends to freestyle," he told the crowd. Still, that didn't stop Glover from dropping some rhymes once house DJ Skrillex dropped a beat. "It turns out we all can freestyle."
Glover tossed to Skylar Grey and Yelawolf, who were charged with handing out the Best Video Woodie. In a tough category that included crossover stars Vampire Weekend and the Black Keys, Chiddy Bang grabbed the prize for their inventive clip for "Opposite of Adults."
Zoe Kravitz came out and threw to Wiz Khalifa, who spit "Roll Up" (from his forthcoming album Rolling Papers) from the balcony of the theater surrounded by enthusiastic fans. Once Khalifa hit the stage, the gold light kicked in and the terrible towels started flying, which could only mean one thing: "Black and Yellow." Khalifa's pro-Pittsburgh anthem sounded like a massive pop hit -- which, coincidentally, is exactly what it was.
Woodies veteran Pete Wentz was up next. He gave out the Left Field Woodie to Kanye West, though not before letting the world know that he was "all 'Free Earl,' but had love for Tyler." Weezy was not in Austin to accept his award, but Wentz accepted the prize on his behalf. In the middle of Wentz's speech, he was interrupted by fellow Left Field nominee Lil B, channeling West's drop-in on Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMAs.
Meanwhile, Eliza Doolittle drank in the crowd and paid tribute to the late Nate Dogg before tossing to Two Door Cinema Club up on the stage. The jittery Irish trio crooned and jangled their way through their current single "What You Know," one of the highlights on their debut album, Tourist History.
Glover then introduced "My Life as Liz" star Liz Lee, who was up in the balcony to introduce the college radio station that won the College Radio Woodie; the prize went to WVUM of Miami University.
Dev and Lil B were up next, onstage to hand out the Best Performing Woodie. "This award is not about who brings the most money, but about who brings the most swag to the performance!" declared Lil B. Matt & Kim apparently have more swag than any of the other nominees, because they won the big block of wood. Matt teased a stage dive from the balcony but settled for high-fiving most of the first row right after encouraging everybody to donate to the relief effort in Japan.
Woodies veterans Friendly Fires then introduced Sleigh Bells, one of the most hotly anticipated performers of the evening. The duo made their television debut with the jagged "Riot Rhythm." Clad in the denim jacket she picked out specifically for the occasion, singer Alexis Krauss shouted, swayed and cooed her way into the hearts of the crowd (though the special appearance by the marching band probably helped -- it certainly added to the cacophony).
"That was sick!" Glover declared before handing the stage to Chiddy Bang. Chiddy broke out a freestyle before running down the nominees for Breaking Woodie (which included Dev, Sleigh Bells, Local Natives, Wavves and Two Door Cinema Club). Based on fan voting, the winners were Two Door Cinema Club (who announced that it was their first award in America).
Last year's Best Video Woodie winners Matt & Kim took the stage again to give out the prize for Woodie of the Year. They announced that they would not be getting naked (like they did in their award-winning "Lessons Learned" clip), though they did do some slow-motion grinding. When the dust settled, Wiz Khalifa won Woodie of the Year for the crossover smash "Black and Yellow." The Pittsburgh native seemed genuinely moved by his victory and spent most of his acceptance speech chuckling live on the microphone.
But though the last award had been given out, the climax was yet to come. Comedian Aziz Ansari showed up to introduce Odd Future, who used Tyler the Creator's "Yonkers" as a coming-out party. While the track played, a masked midget came out to impersonate Tyler before getting replaced by the real Tyler. Clad in a pink-and-blue hoodie and green ski mask, Tyler growled his way through "Sandwitches" while stalking the outer limits of the theater and violently stage-diving into the crowd. As the performance evolved, Tyler was joined by fellow MC Hodgy Beats and two furries in costumes. They were eventually dragged off the stage by security, leaving a permanent mark on the show -- and on culture at large.

Robert Pattinson Will Be 'A Really Serious Actor,' Uma Thurman Says
But she can't confirm or deny reports about his nudity in their movie 'Bel Ami': 'I didn't see his bum once!'By Kara Warner

Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage
Throughout the course of his first few years in the business, Robert Pattinson has had a great run with quality leading ladies. During MTV News' recent live interview with the star, he joked that he has a special place in his heart for working with "hot girls."
When MTV News caught up with one of the "hot" women in question, Uma Thurman, she laughed off the compliment and turned the praise back toward her co-star and his impressive work in their upcoming period drama, "Bel Ami."
"Robert Pattinson is, I think, going to be a really serious actor," Thurman said while promoting her new movie "Ceremony." "I think he's incredibly concrete in his presence on the set and obviously is very handsome. [He] is a very nice person and he's sensitive. He's present. ... He's a really good actor."
Thurman went on to say that while a lot of attention is focused on his attractiveness, he was very professional during filming and held his own with all the women who appear in "Bel Ami."
"Yes, he's extremely dashing, like an old-world movie star," Thurman admitted. "[But] he's got a lot of weight to him. I don't think he was knocked down by all the women they threw at him [during the filming of 'Bel Ami'], which I think is probably lucky for him."
Speaking to Pattinson's comments that we might see a lot of his bum in "Bel Ami," Thurman revealed she was not privy to any RPattz nakedness.
"I didn't see his bum once!" she said, laughing. "So I can't tell you about it. I don't know what happened to him with other characters, I have no idea, to tell you the truth," she said, adding that just because she didn't see it, doesn't mean it won't be in the film. "I haven't seen the film cut together, so there may or may not be Robert's bum."

'Limitless' Beats Down 'Battle: Los Angeles' At Weekend Box Office
Bradley Cooper suspense flick also came out on top over 'Rango,' 'The Lincoln Lawyer.'By Ryan J. Downey

The weekend's box-office receipts proved that Bradley Cooper doesn't need his "Hangover" or "A-Team" buddies to open a movie, Matthew McConaughey can impress the critics when he skips the easy romantic comedy cash, and the pair responsible for "Shaun of the Dead" have yet to exhaust their well of genre love letters as "Limitless," "The Lincoln Lawyer" and "Paul" hit theaters.
Cooper's "Limitless" was the #1 movie in America with a $19 million debut, according to studio estimates. It's the first flick to depend on Cooper's star power since the heartthrob actor hit it big in "The Hangover," the ensemble buddy romp that became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy ever. Overall, the box office was down 10 percent from last year, but this wasn't a bad debut.
Matthew McConaughey, known for going shirtless in several poorly reviewed but hugely successful romantic comedies, told the Toronto Star he took a pay cut to play an attorney reduced to living in his car in "The Lincoln Lawyer," and that move certainly paid off. "The Lincoln Lawyer" debuted at #4 with $13.4 million, and perhaps better still for the 41-year-old actor, it boasted an 81 percent critical average according to Rotten Tomatoes. By comparison, his "Fool's Gold" mustered a mere 10 percent with critics just a couple of years ago.
Lionsgate Films paid theaters the difference for 40,000 tickets that were redeemed through a Groupon promotion, where subscribers to the discount email service were able to pick up tickets to "The Lincoln Lawyer" for just $6. The studio reported that 190,000 tickets were sold this way, which means many folks will likely continue to redeem them throughout the film's run in theaters.
"Paul," the weekend's other new wide release, was #5 with $13.2 million. Written by and starring Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, "Paul" is a road trip movie about an alien that is as much a comedic love letter to classic sci-fi films like "E.T." and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" as their previous movies "Hot Fuzz" and "Shaun of the Dead" paid homage to the action and zombie genres, respectively (and respectfully, for that matter). With a production budget of $40 million and worldwide appeal, the movie is sure to do fine for co-distributors Relativity and Universal.
Seth Rogen voices the namesake alien in "Paul" and the film's opening was stronger than that of his "Observe and Report" and his Kevin Smith-directed "Zack and Miri Make a Porno." It easily outdid "Hot Fuzz" as well, which debuted with $5.8 million in 2007 and went on to gross $23.6 million in the U.S. While 71 percent of critics enjoyed "Paul," it does bear the unfortunate distinction of being the worst reviewed of the Frost/Pegg collaborations next to the 91 percent earned by both "Fuzz" and "Shaun."
"Limitless" was the only new release that was able to beat "Rango." The blockbuster animated movie starring the voice talent of Johnny Depp as a lizard-turned-sheriff was #2 over the weekend with another $15 million in receipts for a $92 million total.
"Battle: Los Angeles" was #3 with $14.6 million for a $60.6 million total. "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke's gothic take on "Red Riding Hood" was #6 with $7.2 million for a two-week total of just $25.9 million. The movie's critical rating came in at just 11 percent.
The Matt Damon vehicle "The Adjustment Bureau" was #7 with $5.9 million for a $48.7 million total. Disney's "Mars Needs Moms," one of the biggest flops in recent memory, was #8 with just $5.3 million for a $15.4 million total against an estimated $150 million production budget. "Beastly," which had a release date close behind Alex Pettyfer's other teen-friendly flick, "I Am Number Four," was #9 with $3.3 million for a $22.2 million total. The comedy "Hall Pass" rounded out the top 10 with $2.6 million for a $39.5 million total.

Britney Spears May Release Ke$ha-Penned Track As Next Single
'Till The World Ends' expected out sometime next week.By Jocelyn Vena

Slowly but surely, fans are getting a taste of what Britney Spears' March 29 album release, Femme Fatale, will sound like. On Wednesday, Spears slowed things down with the tease for her track "Criminal" and psyched fans up with the news that she worked with Travis Barker on the album.
Fans are speculating that the next single released will be the Ke$ha-penned track, "Till the World Ends." Art for the single's cover, in which Spears appears sitting on a couch in a sweater and heels, was posted at Deezer.com.
A 30-second snippet of the song appeared on Amazon.de, which indicates that the single will be available on March 11. The track sounds like a fist-pumping anthem, and the sample showcases Spears' electronically enhanced vocals going "Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh."
The single will reportedly drop sometime next week, according to a tweet sent out by Tampa radio station 93.3 FM. "Hearing from Jive Records that we'll have a new @BritneySpears single to play next week!"
Ke$ha recently dished about the track to Spin.com, noting that the song is about the power of an artist performing a great gig. "That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world," she says. "You know, when you go out, and you're having an amazing, magical night and you don't want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends."
Spears' longtime manager Larry Rudolph recently told MTV News that he's super-excited about the next single off Femme Fatale. "I don't think I've been this excited about releasing a Britney single in many, many years," he said. "It's that good. That's all I'm gonna say about it at the moment. I haven't heard a final mix of it, but I should get it in the next day or two. So far, what I've heard is just extraordinary. It really is amazing. Her fans will be very happy with it. I'm trying hard to get it out before the album comes out."
For those keeping count, it's not the first time Ke$ha and Spears have worked together. Ke$ha appeared on the Circus song "Lace and Leather." "I just did backgrounds for her 'cause I was so broke. I needed to pay my rent," she shared back in 2009. "I got a few bucks. No, [I didn't meet her]. I just did backups for her."

Casey Abrams' Save On 'American Idol': Fans React!
Most commenters thought the 'Idol' judges made the right decision to keep the quirky, bearded contestant on the show.By Gil Kaufman
Casey Abrams
Photo: FOX
Casey Abrams looked like he was going to be sick when the "American Idol" judges announced on Thursday night that they had no doubt that he deserved this season's one-and-only save. The bearded bass plucker tried to look happy, but the shock of the moment nearly dropped him to his knees, even as Randy, Jennifer and Steven explained to him that they were equally surprised he was this week's lowest vote getter and that they couldn't let such a prodigious talent slip away so soon.
Based on the comments you made after Thursday night's suspense-packed elimination show, most of you are on Team Casey, as well.
"The people in America should recognize when they have tremendous artists like Casey and don't vote them out just like that," wrote Sharon. "The judges [were] completely right, CASEY deserves to be there, he is a unique [and] talented artist. CASEY YOU ROCK!!!!!"
Peggy Sue couldn't have agreed more, writing, "I'm glad the judges used their save on Casey. The save is meant to keep a flub-up happening such as someone going home too early, and the only other person I would want to save is James [Durbin] (maybe Jacob [Lusk]).
It's a good reminder for America to vote for their favorites, whether you think they are safe or not. Casey is a little bit unsteady — he is clearly very musical and fun and creative. He needs to use all of that to show us how he could entertain us in the big world, not in his backyard show."
Seeing Casey on the brink of elimination was a total shock for Sweetum29, who said Abrams deserved another chance thanks to his unique voice and winning personality. If anything, Sweetum wondered just what in the heck was wrong with America's voters, opining, "This man always sings great and gives the audience a show instead of just standing in one spot blowing out a tune."
Among the dissenters was Scooter_88, who wrote that while Abrams and Paul McDonald are among the most talented musicians on season 10, "[they] do not have pop voices, so they will probably never win this show." Sheila seconded that emotion, while adding, emphatically, that there was "nothing so special with his voice!!! he always yell[s] or scream[s] ... very irritating." Others referred to the bearded, J.Lo-anointed sex symbol as a "cheap imitation of [forgotten season-five winner] Taylor Hicks, but at least Taylor could sing. I think the judges wasted their save."
Perhaps Candy summed up the hirsute singer's polarizing effect on some voters best with the pointed response, "Casey as the lowest is no surprise to me. His performances have been weird, he looks weird, he sounds weird, he acts weird, and he IS weird."
Reader Rimersh pointed out one of the long-running ironies of "Idol" voting, that "when someone is a clear favorite many will not vote," which could explain how the heavily hyped Abrams ended up near the abyss.
What do you think about Casey's save? Let us know in comment below!

Taylor Swift's Real-Life Home Vs. Her 'Back To December' Pad
Swift's Nashville home features a human-size bird cage and a koi pond.By Jocelyn Vena

In the new video for Taylor Swift's latest Speak Now single, "Back to December," the singer's home is reminiscent of houses one might find in her hometown of Nashville.
In the home, the singer is surrounded by various collectibles including paintings, decorative tree branches, a claw-foot bathtub and a bicycle. The decorative items look like things that could be found at local antique shops, flea markets or perhaps the Nashville outpost of a shop like Anthropologie.
In her real life, Swift lives in her own condo in the heart of Nashville, not far from the city's nightlife. She's been open about her unconventional decorating style for her new home, which includes a very unique piece.
"It's going to be my fantasy world," Swift reportedly told Rolling Stone magazine. "The ceiling of my living room is painted like the night sky. There's a pond in the living room ... The pond is a moat around the fireplace [that] may possibly have koi fish in it. ... "You step on a stepping stone in the pond in order to get on a spiral staircase, which takes you to the human-size bird cage observatory. They're delivering a human-size birdcage, which I'll put a brass telescope in."
In an interview with MTV News last June, Swift spoke about how her home, which was still under construction at the time. "It's giant! It's like people-sized!" she exclaimed about the birdcage. "You can put a table in there, and I'm going to!"
As for the koi pond, Taylor admitted she originally intended for it to have another kind of marine life: sting rays. She even had a solution for any odors they may have caused. "If there are only two of them, it wouldn't be much of an issue! You get a Glade plug-in and you're fine!"

T.I. Might Have Mixed Emotions About Album Release, DJ Drama Says
Despite #4 debut, Drama says Tip probably regrets not being able to promote No Mercy.By Jayson Rodriguez
T.I. and DJ Drama

T.I. is sitting behind bars, but if the rapper can take any solace from his situation, it's that his latest effort No Mercy had a strong debut, landing at #4 on next week's Billboard 200.
But T.I. associate DJ Drama, thinks the rapper probably has mixed feelings about the news that his album pushed nearly 160,000 units last week.
"Tip is the type of guy that, I'm sure, no matter how high it debuted, he might feel disappointed, because he's not here, [and he might] feel like he could have done better," Drama told MTV News. "If it does whatever numbers it does, with him being here, it might have done double that. I think this [release] is the toughest one for him. I been a part of his career for the last 10 years, and I seen him in and out of legal problems. But I think this one is a little bit different. Hopefully, this one is the most life-changing one for him. I listened to the album, and I watched it being made, and it's some quality work. You know, at the end of the day, it's about the music. And he still comes with that music.
"But I don't think he's sitting there celebrating and thinking, 'Oh, we did a good number,' or, 'We debuted high,' " Drama added. "He's probably thinking to himself, 'Damn, I could have done a lot better if I was in a better position by being home to work.' "
Currently, Tip is serving an 11-month sentence for violation his probation, stemming from his arrest in Los Angeles in September.
The rapper and his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, were pulled over for a traffic violation and police discovered drugs in the vehicle. T.I. was let go without being charged in the incident and traveled back to Atlanta, where he later faced the same judge that sentenced him to one year and one day in prison on weapons charges.

On Tuesday night, Chris Brown was in great spirits as he partied alongside fans at his F.A.M.E. record-release party at New York's Webster Hall.
Earlier in the day, he made headlines when he had a public meltdown backstage after his interview with "Good Morning America," but by the time the party started, Brown just wanted to redirect the energy to his album.
"It was good. There was nothing but girls in there," DJ Juanyto, who was at the party, told MTV News. "He came onstage, no Hollywoodness. He took all that energy from everyone and started performing. It was dope. No type of negativity. He was really positive. It was really dope."
Brown also performed at the gathering, bringing out pals like Bow Wow, Waka Flocka Flame and Lloyd Banks. E! News reports that the star alluded to his earlier drama, saying, "I wasn't gonna perform tonight, but f--- it! A lot of whack sh-- happened today."
Juanyto confirmed that Brown alluded to the media drama, but he said Brown also added, "I'm really here for my fans."
"After he performed, he went up to the balcony and was partying," Juanyto said. "He came back downstairs and he brought out Lloyd and got into a reggae dance competition with the audience. He's really all about the fans. There was no drama whatsoever. When he's around his fans, he has all that love. He's really all about interacting with his fans."
Brown stayed at the party for about two hours and made sure that the focus stayed on his fan appreciation. "He just really was all about his fans," Juanyto added. "He really made sure he spent all of his time with them, and he thanked them for coming out. He said, 'I don't care how you get the album, as long as you have it, I appreciate it.' "

Robert Pattinson Says Making 'Water For Elephants' Was 'Magical'
'I just wanted to show I can be Jacob too,' he jokes to MTV News about his character's 'Twilight'-ready name.By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Robert Pattinson
Photo: MTV News
"MTV First: Robert Pattinson" was barely seconds old before the man of the hour started to feel just a little bit overwhelmed. After we told him that his fans had tweeted in 50,000 questions, he cracked, "Do I have to answer every single one?"
Considering that would probably require Pattinson to hang around with us until the first part of "Breaking Dawn" hits theaters in November, we'll let the guy off the hook. But before we even hit the first of our Twitter questions, we revealed an exclusive "Water for Elephants" clip and asked Rob about shooting the upcoming drama opposite Reese Witherspoon.
"It felt like it was kind of magical in many ways, because we were out in the desert shooting," he said. "There was nothing from the modern world around. It was a different experience for me. It wasn't in a studio or anything."
Sure, it was different, but there remains something oddly familiar about "Water for Elephants": a sweeping romantic story, a love triangle and a character named Jacob. Sound a bit like "Twilight," anyone? The twist, though, is that this time Pattinson is the one playing Jacob.
"I just wanted to show I can be Jacob too. That's the only reason I did the movie. I just looked at the name. There was an elephant, my name is Jacob — done," he said, adding with a laugh, "The next movie I'm doing, I'm called Taylor in it."
The movie is definitely a major step in his career, as he leaps from a blockbuster vampire franchise to a major studio project co-starring Oscar winners Witherspoon and Cristoph Waltz. Only after production wrapped and he began to make the press rounds, though, did he begin to get a bit anxious.
"I wasn't nervous at all until I started doing interviews for it and I realized I actually did a movie," he told us. "It was just really fun while I was doing it. And now I remembered I actually made a movie. I think it's going to be great. It's really beautiful. It was really fun making it, so hopefully it will reflect in the movie."

Miley Cyrus Defends Mom In Paparazzo Encounter
'You just hit my mom with your camera. Don't you ever do that again,' the teen star tells tells aggressive photographer.By Jocelyn Vena

Paparazzi are warned: Young Hollywood is on the defense. Just a week after Justin Bieber flipped off the paps (and later apologized), Miley Cyrus is also taking a stand against the prying camera lenses of the celeb-obsessed.
As a video posted online shows, the incident took place when a paparazzo ran up from behind Cyrus and her mom, Tish, as they were getting into their car after hitting up California Chicken Cafe in West Hollywood on Wednesday. Cyrus didn't seem to like how close the camera guy got to her mother, so she pushed his lens out of the way, confronting him for getting too invasive.
"You just hit my mom with your camera," she told the man, pointing her finger at him. "Don't you ever do that again. You just almost hurt my mom. Don't you ever even think about it, for real."
As the two women got into the car, the paparazzo still tried to get his photo, as he said, "I would never disrespect your mom like that."
Cyrus has been vocal in the past about her frustrations with photographers following her around, noting that they are an intrusive by-product of her life in the public eye.
"I just [want] people to know, I think in pictures I always look upset. It's because these cameras are following me. I just think it's really kind of unfair," the teen star shared in a September 2010 video blog. "I know there are some people that maybe like that attention, but I'm not one of them. I really just want to be able to go on walks and enjoy where I live ... The paparazzi really frustrate me, and it makes me really upset that I'm being followed around by men that I don't know, and for anyone else, it would be considered stalking. I don't know who those guys are. I don't know if they're good guys or bad guys. I don't necessarily care; I don't want anyone following me."
Do you think Miley's anger at the photographer was justifiable? Share your opinion in the comments.

T.I.'s Wife, Tiny, Gets Drug Case Dismissed

T.I.'s wife, Tameka "Tiny" Harris, may have gotten the MC into some more trouble during her recent jail visit, but she's managed to avoid a harsh penalty for the last time the two misbehaved together.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office confirmed to MTV News that a judge dismissed a misdemeanor drug possession charge against the songstress stemming from a September drug arrest on Thursday (January 6) after Harris provided evidence that she had completed a drug diversion program in Georgia.
Harris was charged with a single count of misdemeanor drug possession in October, one month after she and her chart-topping spouse were arrested in Los Angeles after authorities found Ecstasy after pulling the pair over. The incident led to T.I. getting hauled back to jail in November for probation violation, months after he wrapped up a prison bid for a felony gun case.
The former Xscape singer has sidestepped further legal trouble just days after Tip was reprimanded and moved to a "special housing unit" after getting "frisky" with his longtime love during a visit.
T.I. has been keeping in touch with fans from prison through letters, thanking followers for their support and maintaining that he's ready to turn over a new leaf during his latest jail stint.
"It's a relief to know that there still are people who see a man with a life and not just another headline in the news," he said in a letter in December. "Most of you sound very concerned and optimistic at the same time about my situation. Let me assure you all that I am definitely keeping my head up. I don't consider myself done by far. Also many of you are convinced as I am that God has a plan for me that he's preparing me for. How do you tell God Almighty that all you wanna do is LIVE LIFE ??? What if all you wanna do is be a father to your kids, a husband to your wife, and son to your mother while providing insightful motivation through music and lending a helping hand when possible to those who need it most. Well guys...That's the topic of discussion between me and the MOST HIGH at the moment. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out."

Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg share a few uncanny similarities. Yes, they're both tall and lanky and (allegedly) quite fond of marijuana, but they have even more in common. Their music and laid-back, positive personalities have a universal appeal that seems to transcend genre, gender, race and class.
And Snoop can thank his eldest son for bridging the generation gap between the artists. When MTV News caught up with Snoop recently, he said he had his son to thank for introducing him to Wiz's music.
