Startup helps SaaS vendors boost sales, customer experience
A startup called Totango is hoping to make it big by solving the business problems of fellow SaaS (software-as-a-service) vendors, not end users. Every software company has to deal with the cost of acquiring a customer -- running ads, paying salespeople, and maybe a few wine-and-dine evenings to close the deal -- before they make anything in fees.Penelope Cruz

Ke$ha Wants 'Till The World Ends' Remix To 'Take Over Airwaves'
Singer says her collaboration with Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj made a 'supergroup of three hot, strong women.'By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias

Earlier this week, Britney Spears, Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj dropped their femme-fatale-friendly remix of the Spears club track "Till the World Ends." The already fun song got super-charged thanks to Minaj's cutting verses and Ke$ha's recognizable vocals.
"I'm a massive fan of both the ladies I share the track with," K told MTV News on Wednesday at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards. "I wrote 'TTWE' for Britney with [producers] Dr. Luke and Max [Martin] and she killed it and I loved it, but I just thought a supergroup of three hot, strong women could just take over the airwaves."
Ke$ha went on to give props to both the ladies. "I'm such a massive fan of Britney and I'm such a massive supporter of Nicki and a fan, and chicks sometimes don't team up. I don't know why, but I'm, like, huge on the girl power, so I just wanted to make a power girl track take over."
The remix quickly won praise from fans who seem to think the new features step up the song's game. "You know, with the three of us, I wasn't necessarily surprised [people like it] because I'm such a massive fan of Nicki Minaj and obviously with Britney I'm a fan of it, [taking] myself out of the equation," she said. "I'm just happy people like it."
So did Ke$ha (who once sang backup for Spears) feel any pressure writing a song for Britney? "There was no pressure. Writing for somebody else is really fun 'cause I consider myself a songwriter first and foremost," she explained. "So it was so much fun to put my brain in the sexy Britney Spears brain and express myself almost as if I were possessed by her."

Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, More Rally For 40 Glocc Video
'I just thought it was necessary to get back to the roots,' 40 Glocc tells MTV News of having West Coast icons in 'Welcome to California' clip.By Rob Markman, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf

Who says the California hip-hop scene isn't unified? In his new video for "Welcome to California," rapper 40 Glocc raps alongside E-40, Snoop Dogg, Too Short, Xzibit and newcomer Sevin in a grand show of unity. And to take it up yet another level, artists like Ice Cube, Ice-T, WC and Mistah Fab all make cameos.
" 'Welcome to California,' I just thought it was necessary to get back to the roots," 40 Glocc told MTV News. "I felt like we were out of touch with our peers, so I felt like re-touching everybody from Southern California to Northern California, just bring everybody together. So you got all the O.G. cats and you got me and my homey Sevin, who is from Sacramento."
The track, off of 40's upcoming New World Agenda album, wasn't easy to record — and getting the video shot was even harder. Glocc set up three different shoots in order to capture footage of all of the aforementioned artists who appear in the clip, but it was well worth it for the Cali rapper.
"I felt like bringing us all together and giving California back that motivation. I felt like the motivation was missing for us to be ourselves and just do us," he explained. "It was real hard to get everybody together at once because everybody is busy with schedules, but we pulled it off. I was exhausted after, like, 'Wow.' "
"Welcome to California" isn't the only trick 40 Glocc has up his sleeve; he has friends in high places, and that will be clear on New World Agenda, which is due in the fall. Cee Lo Green will feature on a song called "Electric Lady," and 40 teased collaborations with Ray J, Mobb Deep's Prodigy, Yo Gotti and Twista.

Robert Pattinson's Edward 'Becomes A Man' In 'Breaking Dawn'
Director Bill Condon says 'Twilight' star deftly tackles finale's most emotional scenes.By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

"Twilight" fans who've already read the best-selling books upon which the films are based have a sense of what to expect from the final two films when they hit theaters. Specifically, what emotional ups and downs will unfold onscreen, and which characters will be most impacted.
"Breaking Dawn" director Bill Condon recently revealed to MTV News what he predicts will be the most emotional moments in the final installments. He also opened up about how stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have tackled the acting challenges presented to their characters, Bella and Edward. (Spoilers ahead for those who haven't read the books.)
"There's this really quiet moment when Bella discovers that she's pregnant and Edward leaves the room having said, 'Carlisle will get that thing out of you,' " Condon recalled, "and she realizes, 'Oh my god, I've got trouble ahead.'
"Edward, the person she's been longing for all this time is actually on the other side of this very basic issue about this baby that's growing inside of her, and she puts all that aside and she turns and she has a moment where she catches herself in this mirror. It's actually a scene, just Kristen alone, where she falls in love with the idea of being a mother and it's just simple, but I think it's very moving."
Condon went on to say that Pattinson's work in the film is equally moving, noting how much he has evolved as an actor. "[Edward] really becomes an adult [in this film]," Condon said. "In the beginning, he has this beautiful toast to [Bella] where he talks about, 'You're so lucky if you find that one person who can see you for who you are and still accept you and allow you to move beyond who you've been.' And that's what Rob does in this movie," the director added, "He sort of puts aside Edward's self-loathing and all that stuff and actually becomes a man.
"So at the end, when Bella's given birth and she's died and he's trying to bring her back, there is stuff in there where the camera just holds him for a long time where he's just doing everything he can think of to make her live and to beg her to live," Condon revealed. "It's just really powerful."

Miley Cyrus Defends Mom In Paparazzo Encounter
'You just hit my mom with your camera. Don't you ever do that again,' the teen star tells tells aggressive photographer.By Jocelyn Vena

Paparazzi are warned: Young Hollywood is on the defense. Just a week after Justin Bieber flipped off the paps (and later apologized), Miley Cyrus is also taking a stand against the prying camera lenses of the celeb-obsessed.
As a video posted online shows, the incident took place when a paparazzo ran up from behind Cyrus and her mom, Tish, as they were getting into their car after hitting up California Chicken Cafe in West Hollywood on Wednesday. Cyrus didn't seem to like how close the camera guy got to her mother, so she pushed his lens out of the way, confronting him for getting too invasive.
"You just hit my mom with your camera," she told the man, pointing her finger at him. "Don't you ever do that again. You just almost hurt my mom. Don't you ever even think about it, for real."
As the two women got into the car, the paparazzo still tried to get his photo, as he said, "I would never disrespect your mom like that."
Cyrus has been vocal in the past about her frustrations with photographers following her around, noting that they are an intrusive by-product of her life in the public eye.
"I just [want] people to know, I think in pictures I always look upset. It's because these cameras are following me. I just think it's really kind of unfair," the teen star shared in a September 2010 video blog. "I know there are some people that maybe like that attention, but I'm not one of them. I really just want to be able to go on walks and enjoy where I live ... The paparazzi really frustrate me, and it makes me really upset that I'm being followed around by men that I don't know, and for anyone else, it would be considered stalking. I don't know who those guys are. I don't know if they're good guys or bad guys. I don't necessarily care; I don't want anyone following me."
Do you think Miley's anger at the photographer was justifiable? Share your opinion in the comments.

T.I. Thanks Fans For Supporting No Mercy
'I love hearing your opinions on what songs you like most for the next singles,' incarcerated MC tells fans in message on his website.By Mawuse Ziegbe

T.I. may be locked up, but he's still keeping tabs on his fans.
In a message posted on the ATL MC's website Wednesday (December 15), Tip thanked followers for the #4 debut of his latest effort, No Mercy, and added that he's taking fan opinion into account when choosing upcoming singles from the project.
"What up world? First off I'd like to thank everybody again for going out and supporting the 'Hustle' yet again with No Mercy last week. I can't say enough on how much I appreciate the support and all the positive feedback. I read so many tweets, letters, reviews and comments that spoke volumes to how much love was still out there and how much respect still exists for my art and my passion. I put so much of myself into what I do," he said. "I even read over the negative comments cuz' that's the kind of energy I feed off of to adjust, evolve and improve my craft until it manifests into the closest thing to perfection on the next go-round. I love hearing your opinions on what songs you like most for the next singles. We are taking all of them into consideration as we decide right now on which direction to head in."
Tip also urged followers to stay positive despite his time behind bars and sent out some cheery holiday greetings.
"I know this seems like an unfortunate set of circumstances to endure for a career with so much potential but remember adversity builds character and character takes you places money can't. I know what's in store for me in the future so I ain't trippin' and neither should you," he said. "For now all my love and best wishes to you and yours for the holidays. Y'all hold it down out there and I'll do the same in here. And continue to spread the word about No Mercy & Team T.I."
The upbeat missive comes around the same time that longtime T.I. crony DJ Drama said the "Get Back Up" spitter might have been disappointed in his first-week sales because he wasn't physically on the scene.
"Tip is the type of guy that, I'm sure, no matter how high it debuted, he might feel disappointed, because he's not here, [and he might] feel like he could have done better," Drama told MTV News. The mixtape king also added that he feels the drama surrounding Mercy may be a turning point in a career plagued by run-ins with the law — a sentiment that T.I. has also echoed.
"If it does whatever numbers it does, with him being here, it might have done double that. I think this [release] is the toughest one for him. I been a part of his career for the last 10 years, and I seen him in and out of legal problems. But I think this one is a little bit different. Hopefully, this one is the most life-changing one for him," he said. "I listened to the album, and I watched it being made, and it's some quality work. You know, at the end of the day, it's about the music. And he still comes with that music."

'Battleship' Trailer: The Five Key Scenes
We see a whole lot of Brooklyn Decker's skin and an alien ship, but blink and you'll miss Rihanna.By Eric Ditzian
Photo: Universal Pictures
"Battleship" may be based on a board game, but the action flick's first trailer shows an influence far more cinematic than anything having to do with little plastic pegs and the faux-sinking of tiny seafaring vessels. The new footage, which Yahoo! premiered on Wednesday (July 27), begins like an ode to a "Blue Crush"-ish beach make-out movie, veers into "Armageddon"-esque father-vs.-daughter's-boyfriend antagonism, then explodes in an orgy of a couple dozen alien-invasion movie references.
Totally original, this one ain't. But it's also pretty damn entertaining, and we really are looking forward to checking out the madness when it hits theaters on May 18, 2012. Until then, here are our picks for the five key "Battleship" trailer moments.
Brooklyn, Obviously
One of these days, Brooklyn Decker is going to get a movie role that doesn't require her to parade around a beach in a bikini. Or not. One thing is certain after checking out this footage and taking in her performance, such as it was, in Adam Sandler's "Just Go With It": Decker, the Sports Illustrated model, has been typecast. In "Battleship," she finds herself in the middle of one of cinema's oldest relationship pickles: in love with a bad boy whom her dad can't freaking stand. Clearly the relationship between the boy (a naval officer played by Taylor Kitsch) and the daddy (Liam Neeson's no-nonsense admiral) will factor into the battle with these aliens. Let's just hope it doesn't become the emotional focus.
Don't Tread on Me
Everything in the Navy's military exercises in the big blue ocean seems to be going well until they encounter a hulking contraption submerged in the water. One unlucky dude (Kitsch) is sent out to touch base, literally, with the alien ship, unleashing a whole lot of extraterrestrial terror. The aliens, we'll soon learn, are here to utilize our oceans as a power source. This one shot raises a bunch of questions. Why are the ship's defenses activated by simple touch, rather than the proximity of the Navy? What kind of tech do the aliens possess that they can send a sort of shockwave that hurtles a man so far, so quickly? And what's inside the ship that we don't yet see?
What a Big Bubble You Have!
Speaking of alien weaponry, the ship is capable of unleashing some kind of bubble force field that encompasses an enemy and, so it seems, destroys everything within it. We'll just ignore, for now, how the bubble reminds us of that containment unit in "The Simpsons Movie." Instead, let's concentrate on the alien tech. We're hoping for originality and cool visuals to join forces and deliver us a satisfying early summer movie experience. The bubble, perhaps, is the harbinger of fun, absurd, eye-popping stuff to come.
She Needs an Umbrella
"Battleship" marks Rihanna's big-screen debut. In the trailer, blink and you miss her. But she's there, standing up in a raft and looking wet as the alien craft flies overhead. She certainly looks freaked out. But we can't yet get a sense of her acting chops from this footage; and hey, we might not be able to even after this popcorn flick's credits roll. All we can say for now is she had a blast on the production. "Working with [director] Peter Berg is unbelievable," she told us last fall. "I love doing movies now. It's something I want to do more of. I just want to pick films that are wise for me and roles that I can pull off, nothing that is too big for me."
Taking Flight
We have to say we're surprised how much of the alien ship we get to see in this first trailer. We see how it's a craft that can both plunge into the water and also take flight. We see how it can transform and shift and hover; quite a lot of control, those aliens have on this sucker. We see its cylinder-shaped weaponry. We see the front of the ship almost seems to have a face. So the question is: How much did filmmakers hold back? We haven't, for instance, seen the aliens themselves. With so many alien flicks hitting theaters each year, it's getting harder and harder to surprise audiences with those creatures. Can "Battleship" do it? Stay tuned.
Check out everything we've got on "Battleship."

Stay tuned.

'Cowboys & Aliens' Star Olivia Wilde Happy To Revive Westerns
'I think we're bringing the Western to a younger audience in a major way,' star says.By Sterling Wong, with reporting by Eric Ditzian
Olivia Wilde in "Cowboys and Aliens"
Photo: Universal Pictures
Olivia Wilde is no stranger to big-budget productions — she did, after all, star in last year's "Tron: Legacy." But the actress is adamant about the fact that her latest blockbuster, this Friday's much-anticipated "Cowboys & Aliens," is not like any other that has come before this summer.
"We are not a sequel, and we are not a superhero movie," Wilde explained to MTV News, undoubtedly referring to the string of well-known franchise movies that have come our way thus far this summer, from sequels to "Harry Potter" and "Transformers" to comic book fare like "Thor" and "Captain America." "So we're an original piece of material and that's really rare this summer."
OK, it's no superhero movie, but "Cowboys" is based on a comic book. Still, Wilde emphasized that the plot isn't exactly derivative. "Even though our title is based on a comic book, we're not actually a comic book movie. The story is completely original," Wilde noted. "Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who wrote 'Star Trek,' wrote this story from scratch, just using the idea of the 'Cowboys & Aliens' comic book as inspiration."
Another way that "Cowboys & Aliens" stands out from the pack is the way it pays homage to a classic genre. "I think we're bringing the Western to a younger audience in a major way, which I think is really exciting, because I love Westerns, and I'm happy to introduce this genre to a bunch of people," Wilde said.
Of course, no good Western is complete without its rugged leading men. "We have Daniel Craig, who I think embodied Steve McQueen in this role," the actress gushed. "He's so badass it's unbelievable, and I think he's really, really smart and interesting in this role, and I think Harrison Ford pulls out his best performance in years. He's incredibly moving, and also very funny."

Taylor Lautner Wants To Show 'Fun' Side In A Comedy
'I did the thing with Jason Sudeikis,' the 'Twilight' star says of how MTV Movie Awards skit showed off his comedy chops.By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Taylor Lautner
Photo: WireImage
Taylor Lautner may be gunning to be Hollywood's next big action star, but that doesn't mean he isn't itching for a good comedy as well.
The "Twilight Saga" star recently got some laughs with a Funny or Die sketch called "Field of Dreams 2: NFL Lockout" and he has appeared in a series of silly skits to promote the MTV Movie Awards in the past two years. At San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, MTV News caught up with the actor, who told us he would "definitely" love to star in a comedy in the future.
"I've always loved comedies," he said. "I did 'SNL,' and then I did the thing with Tom [Cruise] for the MTV Movie Awards, and then most recently I did the thing with Jason Sudeikis, which was a lot of fun," he said of a promo skit with the 2011 awards-show host.
So does Taylor think he has the chops to make it up there with the comedic greats?
"I just like to have fun," Lautner said with a laugh. "I don't think I'm funny at all, but I just like to have fun."
While Lautner hit Comic-Con to promote his action flick "Abduction," he kept things top-secret about another project. The actor was recently seen grabbing a bite to eat with Gus Van Sant and the director's "Milk" screenwriter, Dustin Lance Black, sparking rumors that the three men have a film in the works.
"They are two talented men," Lautner teased. "You'll see."
Of course, Twilighters will recall that two years back, Van Sant was in the running for the job of "Breaking Dawn" director, so Van Sant and Lautner might have been introduced at that time. Time will tell.

Young Jeezy Says TM 103 Release Is 'Locked'
'It's time to go!' the Snowman tells MTV News of long-awaited album's September 20 drop date.By Rob Markman, with reporting by Rahman Dukes

Young Jeezy is ready to go. After numerous delays and setbacks, the Snowman tells MTV News that the release date for his next solo album, TM 103, is set in stone. "It's locked, it's dead-locked. It's time to go! September 20, how y'all want it," he said.
The album — Jeezy's fourth and the third in his Thug Motivation series — first started creating a buzz in 2009, when it was expected to be given a 2010 release. Singles like "Lose My Mind," "All White Everything," "Jizzle" and the Lil Wayne-assisted "Ballin' " came and went, while the album remained in limbo. But on Monday night at his New York City concert celebrating the six-year anniversary of his debut album, Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101, Jeezy announced the rock-solid September 20 date.
Backstage at a second TM 101 show in Atlanta on Tuesday, Jeezy explained that he wasn't about to tarnish his reputation as an artist just to make that 2010 release date. "One thing you gotta know about Young is I'm three for three," he said, speaking of the quality of his previous albums. "I'm on my own time. I'm the boss — I'm not rushing myself for nothing.
"At the end of the day, I'm not about to give nobody no music to make a deadline, I'm gonna give them something to live and die by. If it ain't classic, it ain't monumental, I don't want to be a part of it. I make hits, man. I make classics. I can't just give somebody something just 'cause it's time. It's better late than never baby, trust."
Jeezy is particularly excited about his new single "Shake Life." The track, which was produced by Lil Lody, samples from Toto's 1978 song "Georgy Porgy" and on it, Jeezy raps about how he was counted out of the game, the war in Iraq and the ills of his former Atlanta neighborhood. "I just put out 'Shake Life,' it's crazy. It's a special record to me," he said. "It's just one of those records to uplift. But if you're worried about club bangers, I got an album full of those sh--s, too easy."

Miley Cyrus Snapped Stumbling Because Of Paparazzi Lights
'Party in the U.S.A.' star was blinded by flashes after meeting with producer Dr. Luke, sources tell MTV News.By Jocelyn Vena

When photos of Miley Cyrus outside of Hollywood's Chateau Marmont hit the Internet on Tuesday (March 15), gossip blogs claimed the star was stumbling around the L.A.-area hotspot after a night of partying. But sources close to Cyrus tell MTV News the rumors are all wrong.
Miley was in a meeting with producer Dr. Luke at the hotel, where they discussed writing music for other artists. Luke and Cyrus worked together on her hit "Party in the U.S.A." According to sources, the teen superstar was actually blinded by the flashing lights of the paparazzi, not stumbling, as had been reported earlier on Tuesday.
Last week, Cyrus made headlines defending her mom against paparazzi gathered outside of the California Chicken Cafe in West Hollywood, California. She confronted one of the photographers, telling him, "You just hit my mom with your camera, don't you ever do that again. You just almost hurt my mom. Don't you ever even think about it, for real."
Cyrus has often expressed her displeasure with the celebrity photogs. "I just [want] people to know, I think in pictures I always look upset. It's because these cameras are following me. I just think it's really kind of unfair," she shared in a September video blog.
"I know there are some people that maybe like that attention, but I'm not one of them. I really just want to be able to go on walks and enjoy where I live. ... The paparazzi really frustrate me, and it makes me really upset that I'm being followed around by men that I don't know, and for anyone else, it would be considered stalking. I don't know who those guys are. I don't know if they're good guys or bad guys. I don't necessarily care; I don't want anyone following me."
In spite of the unwanted media attention, Cyrus is already having a good 2011. She recently showed off her funny side as a host on "Saturday Night Live" and she has two flicks, "LOL" and "So Undercover," set for release this year.

Taylor Swift's Speak Now Tour Brings Honky Tonk To NJ
Newark, New Jersey, arena treated to aerialists, Broadway stage setup.By Jocelyn Vena
Taylor Swift (file)
Photo: Getty Images
NEWARK, New Jersey — A little bit of Music City took over Newark on Tuesday night when Taylor Swift stormed the stage at the Prudential Center to an excited crowd of female devotees for the latest stop on her Speak Now Tour.
Sparks flew as Swift took the stage in a glittering gold dress to open the show with the aptly titled "Sparks Fly." As she previously promised, the theatrics were kicked up a few notches since her Fearless tour, thanks to aerialists, a huge Broadway stage setup and stop-motion animation.
Swift played many instruments throughout the two-hour set, including guitar, banjo and piano.
The show included a wide range of oldies and newbies, such as the Speak Now hits "Mine" and "The Story of Us." "When you're on tour, you mark down in your head the crowds that are the craziest," she told the room. "I don't know what it is about you ... but you come together and you form the super crowd."
For "Our Song" and "Mean," Taylor took from the theme of her "Mean" video and put together a honky tonk vibe right there in New Jersey.
One of the most moving moments of the night came next. Sitting at a white grand piano in an ice-blue gown, Swift slowed things down for "Back to December" as glittering confetti fell from the ceiling.
Amid a whirlwind of costume and set changes, she played a number of other songs including "Better Than Revenge," and then, in a very theatrical moment during "Speak Now," Swift acted out crashing a wedding. She eventually stole the groom away, as she sings in the song, and the pair ran through the crowd together. From a smaller stage mid-arena, Taylor performed "Fearless" with a ukulele and followed it with the breakup tune "Last Kiss."
The night was all about the highs and lows of love, but it was also about the state she would be playing in that night and for the next three nights. She performed a mini ode to Jersey, as she called it, as she transitioned from Bon Jovi's "Livin' On a Prayer" into "You Belong With Me." This marked the perfect time for her to make her way back to the stage, where she finished the song.
During the haunting "Dear John," the pyro matched her vocal fireworks.
She closed out the main part of her set with ballerinas during "Enchanted," more aerialists during "See You Again" and a big thank you to her fans for "Long Live."
For the encore, she played two fan favorites, capping off her epic show with "Fifteen" and "Love Story," during which she flew over the crowd in a balcony. Like any good stage production, the show ended with everyone in the cast taking their final bows alongside Nashville's most-glittering show woman.

With his new album, Rolling Papers, moving almost 200,000 units its first week in stores and landing at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, Wiz Khalifa has certified his position as one of hip-hop's rising stars. Capitalizing on this success, the Pittsburgh rapper is embarking on the Rolling Papers World Tour, and riding shotgun will be G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean.
The "Black and Yellow" MC's tour kicks off at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Missouri, on June 12. Despite its billing as a world tour, Wiz will only be hitting cities in the continental United States, including Las Vegas, New Orleans and Boston, for the 27-date tour before its final stop in Canandaigua, New York, on August 3.
Another featured artist on the bill is rapper Chevy Woods. Also a Pittsburgh native, he is a member of Wiz's Taylor Gang crew. Wiz kept the collaborations on his major-label debut to a minimum, but Chevy managed to appear on "Star of the Show." Big Sean is a Kanye West disciple and his debut LP, Finally Famous: The Album, recently had its release date pushed back to June 21.
Tickets for the tour go on sale to the general public on April 20. The date, an unofficial marijuana holiday known as Weed Day, is appropriate considering Wiz's love of all things marijuana. Members of the official Taylor Gang Fan Club will have the opportunity to purchase tickets on Thursday, April 14.

T.I.'s Wife, Tiny, Gets Drug Case Dismissed
Tameka 'Tiny' Harris proved she completed a drug diversion program in Georgia.By Mawuse Ziegbe

T.I.'s wife, Tameka "Tiny" Harris, may have gotten the MC into some more trouble during her recent jail visit, but she's managed to avoid a harsh penalty for the last time the two misbehaved together.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office confirmed to MTV News that a judge dismissed a misdemeanor drug possession charge against the songstress stemming from a September drug arrest on Thursday (January 6) after Harris provided evidence that she had completed a drug diversion program in Georgia.
Harris was charged with a single count of misdemeanor drug possession in October, one month after she and her chart-topping spouse were arrested in Los Angeles after authorities found Ecstasy after pulling the pair over. The incident led to T.I. getting hauled back to jail in November for probation violation, months after he wrapped up a prison bid for a felony gun case.
The former Xscape singer has sidestepped further legal trouble just days after Tip was reprimanded and moved to a "special housing unit" after getting "frisky" with his longtime love during a visit.
T.I. has been keeping in touch with fans from prison through letters, thanking followers for their support and maintaining that he's ready to turn over a new leaf during his latest jail stint.
"It's a relief to know that there still are people who see a man with a life and not just another headline in the news," he said in a letter in December. "Most of you sound very concerned and optimistic at the same time about my situation. Let me assure you all that I am definitely keeping my head up. I don't consider myself done by far. Also many of you are convinced as I am that God has a plan for me that he's preparing me for. How do you tell God Almighty that all you wanna do is LIVE LIFE ??? What if all you wanna do is be a father to your kids, a husband to your wife, and son to your mother while providing insightful motivation through music and lending a helping hand when possible to those who need it most. Well guys...That's the topic of discussion between me and the MOST HIGH at the moment. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out."

Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift 'Feel Horrible' About Concert Cancellation
The Peas and Swift took to Twitter to apologize to fans after a star-studded NYC charity show was postponed due to bad weather on Thursday.By Jocelyn Vena

The weather just didn't want to cooperate with the Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift and the other artists slated to perform in New York's Central Park on Thursday night at a concert to benefit the Robin Hood Foundation anti-poverty organization. After a number of delays, and before anyone could take the stage, the Concert 4 NYC had been canceled.
The show, which had been slated to take place on Central Park's Great Lawn and was expected to draw an audience of approximately 60,000 fans, initially was just delayed but concert promoters eventually decided to pull the plug on the event as the weather worsened and thunder and rain rolled in, Billboard.com reports. Among the other acts that had been scheduled to perform were Debbie Harry, LL Cool J and Natasha Bedingfield.
A rep for the concert has confirmed to MTV News that no new date has been scheduled. In a statement, the Robin Hood Foundation said, "The heat wasn't going to stop them, the rain wasn't going to stop them, but the lightning — it stopped them. It came down to safety for everyone. Organizers are hoping to reschedule, so ticket buyers should hold onto their tickets. Robinhood.org will have information in the next week or so."
The artists themselves also have apologized to fans for the cancelation. Swift tweeted, "I was like 'I get to sing with Fergie in NYC?!' and then there was rain and lightning and they're like 'it's cancelled' and I was like [sad emoticon]."
The Black Eyed Peas, who reportedly performed an intimate show backstage for fans, also took to Twitter to posted about the nixed concert. "I'm so sad the show got postponed," will.i.am wrote.
"Fergie is really sorry it's not happening we feel horrible," Taboo added on his Twitter page. "We are devastated and Fergie told me to tweet this she loves u all ... I hope that the concert will be rescheduled ASAP, our pea-ple deserve it, my pea-ple from chase and robinhood deserve this NYC we love u."

J. Cole Opens Up About Jay-Z Collaboration
'I finally made a song that was perfect for Jay,' J. Cole tells MTV News.By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ade Mangum
J. Cole
Photo: MTV News
There are sure to be a few features on J. Cole's debut, Cole World: The Sideline Story, but none more anticipated than the one between him and his Roc Nation CEO, Jay-Z. Cole has been tight-lipped about the details surrounding his album, which is slated to drop September 27, but he did open up to MTV News about his and Jay's collaboration, which is still in the works.
Jay snagged the young spitter for a verse on his "A Star Is Born" track off of 2009's The Blueprint 3, and now Cole is waiting for Jigga to return the favor. He won't reveal the song's title just yet, and Jay hasn't even finished his verse, but after he made the beat for the song at his home, Cole knew he had something worthy of Hov's attention.
"I actually did the song thinking I would just throw it out when I made it," the Fayetteville, North Carolina, MC said of the track, which he originally intended to offer to his fans as a free download. "I made it in my crib and I was like, 'Man I'm gonna throw something out today, or tomorrow whatever, let me do a song.' Then I started making it, and as soon as I made it, I was like, 'Oh nah, nah.' "
The instrumental came out so good that Cole scrapped his original plans and immediately began to pen his rhymes. "I had already wrote the verses and I realized, 'Man, this is for Jay.' I finally made a song that was perfect for Jay," he said backstage at last week's date on Rihanna's Loud Tour.
During his appearance on "RapFix Live" back in February, Cole explained to Sway the high standards that he holds for the track. "They been asking me this for a while because I said he was like one of the only rap features I wanted, but it's about the song. It's a lot of pressure on that song. I feel like that's my hardest song to make, is the one I want Jay for. My standards are so high," he said.
In an effort to hold on to album details as long as he can, Cole wouldn't say much more about the song, but did reveal that he left a message for his fans buried in the track's hook. "When people hear the hook, it's kind of like a message — I could be talking to a woman, to my girl, or to my fans or to friends," he said. "But it's really a subliminal message to my fans in that hook."

Justin Bieber, Lil Twist Song 'Is Going To Really Do It'
Young Money MC tells MTV News the pair are working on a clip for single 'Wherever You Are.'By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf

Late last year, Justin Bieber and his "homey" Lil Twist revealed they were working on a mixtape. Well, fans may soon get to hear a song and see a video from that mixtape.
When MTV News spoke to rapper Twist at 106 & Park's Closer to My Dreams tour stop in Los Angeles on Thursday, he told us that once his new single with Bieber reaches the masses, it would have a good chance at making a play in our race for Summer Jam of 2011.
"My third single, 'Wherever You Are,' " Twist said of his summer jam pick. "It features my little brother Justin Bieber and I believe that that record is going to really do it."
Twist went on to dish about the duo's plans to step up their game for the song's forthcoming video."We're gonna get some treatments [written]," he said. "We're not just gonna pick any treatment because that video could just be out of here. We got a few different ones; I don't mean to name any [directors], but a few different ones. It's going to turn out great."
The collaboration between the two young stars has been long-simmering, with Bieber and Twist teasing a full mixtape. For now, though, fans will have to settle for one track. Last November, Twist explained that Bieber had come up with the idea to work on some music together.
"Me and Justin, we actually met through a mutual friend and after that we got real cool actually," he recalled. "[We] started working in the studio, sending stuff through the MacBook and everything. And then he was like, 'Yo, bro, we should do a mixtape. Let's go.' We just started then."

E. Dan Talks Building Wiz Khalifa's Sound 'From Scratch'
Rolling Papers producer tells Mixtape Daily they found 'natural rhythm.'By Rob Markman

Mixtape Daily: Behind the Beats
Fans might not know Pittsburgh producer Eric Dan (E. Dan for short), but they sure as heck know his work. After crafting six out of 14 tracks on Wiz Khalifa's debut album, Rolling Papers, it shouldn't be long before hip-hop heads start catching on.
In 2003, Dan opened his own studio, ID Labs, outside of Pittsburgh. When a young Wiz Khalifa strolled in looking to record, the producer took the Taylor Gang general under his wing and has been working him every step of the way. "It's been a great thing for [ID Labs] to be involved with an artist almost from his inception to where he is now,"
E. Dan said.
Where Wiz is now is at the top of the charts. It was the rapper's #1 single "Black and Yellow" that spearheaded the Khalifa craze, helping Rolling Papers sell just under 300,000 copies since its March
29 release, but it was songs like the E. Dan-produced "The Race" and "When I'm Gone" that provided the LP with its substance.
"With this album, we wanted to go in together from scratch," said Dan, who splits production duties with his partner, Big Jerm. According to Dan, the bulk of the tracks on Rolling Papers came together organically, thanks to the comfortable relationship Dan and Wiz had been building for years. "Working with somebody from that young and working with him for so long, you fall into a natural rhythm, and over time you end up building this sound together," Dan said.
The recording session for Wiz's "The Race" sticks out in E. Dan's mind as an example of their overall organic chemistry. "Wiz fell asleep,"
the producer recalled. "We put [the beat] together; a couple of hours later, Wiz woke up and said, 'Whoa — that's it!' Next thing we knew, he jumped in the booth and did the song."
From there followed "Star of the Show," "Get Your Sh--," "Fly Solo,"
"Cameras" and the intro, "When I'm Gone." Dan has already worked with Pittsburgh breakouts Mac Miller and Chevy Woods, but said he is excited about branching out and adding to his resume. With upcoming production for international rap star K'Naan, it shouldn't be long before the Pittsburgh producer is a worldwide name.

Miley Cyrus is ready to take her music back on the road. The teen superstar is in the planning process for a full-scale international tour, E! News confirms.
Miley will kick off the tour on April 29 at Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito, Ecuador. Then she will take the show to Lima, Peru, at Explanada del Monumental, on May 1. The singer/actress, who has already begun a workout regime to prep for the tour, is set to announce more dates soon. There are no immediate plans for her to play shows in the United States.
"Miley has a huge fanbase worldwide," a source told E! News. "She's pumped that her schedule has opened up and allowed her to perform for fans abroad."
For those who might not be able to see her on tour, Cyrus has resumed tweeting. No, the star has not reinstated her account, like Demi Lovato, but instead will send messages from the Twitter account of production team Rock Mafia. Cyrus is attached to a big-screen adaptation of the group's music video for their track "The Big Bang," which she starred in with Kevin Zegers.
"This is my new way to connect. When I need to speak out I will tweet from @Rock_Mafia ROCK MAFIA FOREVER. x MC," she tweeted, including a picture of herself and the group's Antonina Armato, who added, "Writing with Miley on a Rainy Sunday #Heaven!"
Cyrus has been meeting with lots of music producers recently. Last week she met with "Party in the U.S.A." producer Dr. Luke. Sources tell MTV News that Miley is interested in writing more for other artists.

Justin Bieber Doing NKOTB? Jim Jonsin Reveals Ideas
Producer says he would like to help Biebs channel New Kids on the Block, New Edition and Kelly Rowland.By Rob Markman

Multi-platinum producer Jim Jonsin has some interesting plans for when he gets in the studio with Justin Bieber. No, he won't be coupling the teen-pop sensation with B.o.B, but rather he will try to capture the vibe of NKOTB.
"For Bieber, I think I want to reach back to New Edition, those days," Jonsin initially said before referencing another 1980s Boston-bred boy band. "I want to try to do something like that — 'Please Don't Go Girl,' New Kids on the Block — because the girls would go crazy. Maybe not that song, but something that feels like that: little bit of soul, R&B, but pop as well."
While the track pre-dates the 17-year-old Bieber by about four years, "Please Don't Go Girl" was the first single from NKOTB's sophomore album, Hangin' Tough, and ultimately put the group on the map. The ballad, which featured Joey McIntyre as the lead vocalist, drew comparisons to New Edition's 1983 single, "Is This the End" — not surprising considering both acts were founded and produced by Maurice Starr.
It isn't all about the '80s however: Jonsin also would like to produce something more modern for JB as well, using Kelly Rowland as a reference. "And then I'd love to put him on something like that 'Motivation' type of track," he said of the hit Rowland single he helped create. "Just a hard beat that he could sing something super slick [on]."
Jonsin admits that, at first, he didn't know what to make of Justin, but thanks to the Biebs' "Never Say Never" film, the hitmaker has a newfound respect for the young star. "When I watched the movie with my 8-year-old daughter, I was floored and inspired at who he was as a person. He's a good kid, he's a philanthropist, he's a good role model," Jonsin said. "I have a newfound respect for the young man, and I'm honored to work with him."

Robert Pattinson Reveals Secret Behind 'Breaking Dawn' Sex Scene
'You have to have some tantric breathing and stuff,' he jokes to MTV News at Comic-Con.By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
Robert Pattinson at the San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday
Photo: Getty Images
SAN DIEGO — What kind of preparation went into the steamy love scenes in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part I"? Well, if Robert Pattinson is to be believed, there was very little.
"You just get lubed up and jump right into it!" he proclaimed to MTV News while backstage at San Diego Comic-Con shortly after making an appearance on a panel with his "Breaking Dawn" castmates and director Bill Condon. The group answered questions from Comic-Con attendees and treated them to footage from the upcoming flick, which is the second-to-last film adaptation in the epic saga.
Fan familiarity with Stephanie Meyer's "Twilight" novels means anticipation has been high for several elements of "Breaking Dawn," including a wedding, a birth and perhaps the most anticipated of all: the sex scenes. Smiling broadly, RPattz added: "You have to have some tantric breathing and stuff."
All joking aside, it was pretty clear once Pattinson continued talking that there was, in fact, a bit of planning put into the onscreen depiction of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan getting down to some romantic business. "Everyone always says it about sex scenes in movies — it's really awkward and blah, blah, blah — but it is!" he pointed out.
Ultimately, he likened it to a popular board game. "You're playing Twister," Pattinson deadpanned.
With "Twilight" mania still in full swing, it might be hard for moviegoers to imagine seeing the chemistry between Pattinson and Kristen Stewart re-created within the context of different characters in another story, but that doesn't mean Pattinson wouldn't be up for re-teaming with her in a non-"Twilight" film.
"I'd love to. Definitely," he told us without hesitation. "I don't know how audiences would respond to it or whatever, [but] I'd love to."

'Captain America' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need to Know
We've been following 'The First Avenger' since it was first announced.By Ryan J. Downey

Captain America will finally throw his mighty shield on the big screen this weekend. And while Cap's journey from the comics to the megaplex wasn't quite as arduous as the hero's transition from World War II to present day (which involved being frozen in a block of ice), there were plenty of twists and turns before Chris Evans put on the costume that will allow him to lead the Avengers.
A "Captain America" movie actually appeared back in 1990, but to call it a "B-movie" would be generous. Albert Pyun, the director responsible for action romps like Jean Claude Van Damme's "Cyborg," cast actor Matt Salinger in the title role and took several liberties with established continuity. Cap was still named Steve Rogers, still given his abilities by a "super soldier serum" during World War II and still frozen in a block of ice, however, his arch-nemesis switched from German to Italian.
This summer's "Captain America: The First Avenger" returns the Red Skull to his nefarious Nazi origins. Hugo Weaving plays the megalomaniacal fellow experimental "super soldier" who leads Hitler's deep science division, HYDRA, which eventually breaks away from the Nazis due to the Skull's world-domination plans. Steve Rogers is a Brooklyn kid whose scrawny size and poor health cause him to be rejected continually as he tries to enlist for the war effort. A professor's serum gives him a muscular body and super-strength. Thanks to technology, Evans portrays both versions of the character.
Jon Favreau considered directing "Captain America" before ultimately choosing "Iron Man" instead. That film's success established Marvel as a Hollywood studio in its own right (with distribution help, of course), following previous Marvel character flicks like "X-Men," "Spider-Man" and "Daredevil," which were handled by other studios. Marvel decided to mix heroes onscreen as they always have in print (at least the ones they still own the rights to) with next summer's "Avengers" movie building on "Easter eggs" and story connections established across multiple films, like "Cap."
"The Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier was considered for a time before the job ultimately went to Joe Johnston, who had proven his hero prowess and period-movie gloss with "The Rocketeer."
Garrett Hedlund ("Tron: Legacy"), John Krasinski ("The Office'") and Mike Vogel ("Cloverfield") were among the actors reportedly considered for the title role. Sebastian Stan ("Gossip Girl") was considered as well before ultimately being cast as Captain America's sidekick, "Bucky" Barnes.
Chris Evans actually turned the role down. He had played a Marvel hero before, appearing as the Human Torch in two "Fantastic Four" films. Evans and Weaving were the first cast announcements.
"I got a call, and they said they want me to audition, and I said, 'Great!' And then I thought about it and I said, 'No thanks,' " Evans told MTV News. "And then they called back and they said, 'Well, they want you to test,' and testing is basically they'll draw up a contract, and if you're testing then you're only testing with a couple other guys and the odds of walking away with it drastically increase. And again I just said, 'I think I'm good. This isn't really what I'm looking for.'
"It just seemed like the more I walked away, the more they pursued," he explained.
At Comic-Con last year, where he appeared onstage with the rest of the Avengers, Evans told us about all the research he did to bone up on Captain America lore after he accepted the role.
"Personally, when I was going through the comic books, the ones that were most intriguing were the origin stories. I just wanted to get as many different takes on how this guy started out."
Fans were thrilled to learn more information about the Captain America movie as it trickled out online: The Howling Commandos would appear; the Cosmic Cube figured into the story; Tony "Iron Man" Stark's father, Howard Stark, would be a central supporting character, and so forth.
But as it turned out, Evans was still questioning his decision to play the role even at Comic-Con.
"I remember the first time I went to a fitting and I put on the suit, and I just was so terrified, so focused on the negatives, still," he told us a few months later. "I bet when I was at that Comic-Con, I was probably still terrified, probably still apprehensive about whether or not this was right.
"I can't believe I almost didn't do it!" he told us emphatically. "For better or worse, no matter what happens with the film, whether it's a good film or not, it was the right thing to do and I'm glad I did it."
Audiences will have a chance to make up their own minds about "Captain America: The First Avenger" this weekend. Critics have been positive thus far. At press time, the film stood at 73 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, which collects reviews from major critics. "It's paced and designed for people who won't shrivel up and die if two or three characters take 45 seconds between combat sequences to have a conversation about world domination, or a dame," wrote The Chicago Tribune.
Rolling Stone praised the film's star in particular. "Evans, who played the Human Torch in two less-than-fantastic Fantastic Four films, brings such humor, heart and vigor to virtuous Steve that our rooting interest holds even when the action gets to be standard-issue," Peter Travers wrote.

Overview:
Phone hackers met cyber hackers this week, as the Anon/Lulz crew focused their attention on the scandal surrounding Rupert Murdoch and News of the World. At the same time, the FBI was focusing its attention on them, rounding up several alleged members of the notorious hacktivist pranksters. That's not all that went down. Apple released its latest desktop OS to mixed reviews, Google got more (or possibly less) skin in the short URL game, and there's a new social network startup from a rather unlikely source. Are you likely to nab a perfect score on this week's quiz? Give yourself 10 points for each correct answer. Now stop reading about that Murdoch scandal and get to work.

'Amazing Spider-Man' Star Shows Nerd Cred At Comic-Con
Andrew Garfield describes 'surreal' moment: 'I felt like I was Spider-Man,' he tells MTV News.By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Photo: Sony Pictures
SAN DIEGO — "The Amazing Spider-Man" swung into San Diego Comic-Con on Friday (July 22), and star Andrew Garfield made sure he came ready to talk about the comic book influences he drew from for his performance.
Part of what makes Garfield so endearing in the role is his passion for the character of Spider-Man and his love of the comic books. When he chatted with MTV News, he showed off his nerd cred by dropping comic book names when describing the suit and physicality he used for Peter Parker.
"The body time in the Ultimates is what I loved," he explained. "Because I'm skinny, if you hadn't noticed; I'm a skinny guy. I love the idea of a skinny guy beating the crap out of big guys just as a personal fantasy fulfillment."
But there was more to his performance than that. Garfield made sure he was very specific with his body movements and his physical appearance because he wanted to make a point of bringing more to the evolution of Peter Parker to Spider-Man than the previous films did.
"One of the elements that I was interested in was doing something with his physicality," Garfield said. "I wanted it to be like the venom, the spider bite, was doing something specific to his DNA ... In life, imagine like he has more arms than he does, more legs than he does, and more of a special awareness."
Fans have finally had a chance to take a look at "The Amazing
Spider-Man" thanks to a trailer that debuted earlier this week. But, as a huge fan himself, Garfield had a bit of a difficult time rationalizing to
himself that he was actually Spider-Man.
Garfield said there was only one moment in which he felt like he was Spider-Man instead of going through some strange out-of-body experience that wasn't really happening. "I was in a changing room on my own, and I could be honest with myself. I was really moved by it because no one else was around," Garfield said. "It was genuinely very, very emotional, and it felt surreal. It was the only moment
where I felt like I was Spider-Man."

Taylor Swift Explains How Her Songwriting Has Grown
Since recording her first album at 16, what's changed most is 'the kind of things you say when you're hurt.'By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Taylor Swift's musical evolution has been pretty clearly aligned with her age. While she's writing about love and heartbreak, as she did when she was a teenager, the way she expresses that joy and pain has grown from the puppy-love lyrics to more mature reflections.
Back in the day, on her self-titled debut album, she was writing odes to country superstars, like in "Tim McGraw," and using metaphors to try to understand emotions that she hadn't yet fully experienced. With a career in full swing and a highly publicized love life, three albums later, it's apparent that Swift drew on real-life experiences for Speak Now.
When she sat down with MTV News earlier this week during "MTV First: Taylor Swift" Sway asked what she felt about her musical coming of age. "I don't know," she said. "I think retrospect will tell a lot. Years from now [and] I'll look back and go, 'I didn't know anything then.' "
Swift said the biggest difference between her teenage songs and her current ones is "the kind of things you say when you're hurt."
"I had this song called 'Picture to Burn,' that's talking about how 'I hate your truck,' and 'I hate that you ignored me,' 'I hate you,' " she explained. "Now, the way that I would say that and the way that I would feel that kind of pain is a lot different."
But Swift has no regrets about her earlier songs. "But I think that my first record came out when I was 16, the next one, Fearless, came out when I was 18 and this one came out when I was 20, so I think there's a lot of personal growth.
"I look back on the record I made when I was 16, and I'm so happy I made it," she continued. "I got to immortalize those emotions that when you're so angry, you hate everything. It's like recording your diary over the years, and that's a gift."

Before you get locked into Lync, consider open source options
Lync, Microsoft's unified communications platform that combines voice, Web conferencing, and instant messaging is reportedly poised to become the next billion-dollar business at Microsoft. That's good news for Microsoft, but those billions of dollars come out of IT's pocket. It's time you considered alternatives before Lync becomes ingrained in your IT environment, much like SharePoint has for many companies.Cheryl Burke

Taylor Swift Is 'A Pretty Normal Girl,' Emma Stone Says
At the country/pop star's urging, Stone talks about her secret baking skills during MTV's Sneak Peek Week.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Emma Stone and Taylor Swift are best gal pals. Stone has opened up about Swift in the past, revealing that the superstar "has such a sick sense of humor," and when Stone sat down for a Q&A about "The Help" during MTV's Sneak Peek Week, she divulged a bit more about their relationship.
So is Stone digging Swift's latest album, Speak Now? "I am indeed. I was lucky enough to hear it pretty early on, so it's so exciting for it to be out and own the songs instead of just be singing them [in my head]," she dished, sharing that just because Swift is one of the biggest pop stars in the world doesn't mean she's at all critical of her friends who can't sing as well as her.
"Taylor's a pretty normal girl," Stone said. " ... She's not [like], 'I am one of the world's most popular singers.' "
Stone's kind words came shortly after an email was read to her from her superstar pal who wanted to know more about her love of baking. "I've been baking at least once a day," she shared, revealing some of the sweet treats she's been making the past few months.
While she's got some sweet skills when it comes to confections, when she attempts to bake for a large group, the results aren't as delicious. "I made 60 biscuits once for a party," she said. "They didn't turn out so great, though. I think in bulk I'm a little subpar."
Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Tune in at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT that night for the "America's Best Dance Crew" finale and Movie Awards pre-show, loaded with live action from the red carpet, exclusive movie clips and a special edition of "After Hours." To get into the magical movie mood, it's Sneak Peek Week -- five days of exclusives and interviews with the casts of "Fright Night," "Horrible Bosses" and more.
